FierceWireless: Verizon will kill 'grandfathered' unlimited data

A friend of mine is a mgr at a corporate store. It is more than rumor. Said it is happening. A coworker is married to a Sprint manager. They aren't dropping their unlimited data. I am seriously thinking about leaving . This is bull. Customers need to email Verizon and complain. All the changes they are making along mow with 30.00 fee to upgrade. The money alone in profits off just that for them. They can afford to keep those of us on the unlimited grandfathered in. They are not losing money. Greed instead of customer service.....

The best way to complain is to leave and get those churn numbers up for Verizon.

Re: FierceWireless: Verizon will kill 'grandfathered' unlimited d

They may lose you, but I doubt they'll lose millions.

Even if they don't, Verizon better be ready to have a much higher percentage of turnovers where customers are cancelling their service with them.

Yeah, me, too. I think at the very least, everyone should fight the company like they did when Verizon tried to charge payment fees for more payment options. If unsuccessful, then if one chooses to do so, dump them.

I really don't want to find another provider. VZ is in the top range for national coverage and more places have 3G or higher, and they'll be the first carrier where I live that will have 4G LTE. Unfortunately, they're giving me fewer reasons to stick around.

Time to start voting with your wallet, the customer controls this, we start leaving, they change. This is the problem when carriers get to big, hopefully the FCC is watching and Bocks Verizon and AT&T from buying up any more carriers, they both are to big and out of control.

First time in 15 years that i'm looking at my options, Verizon will probably be losing my 10 lines when they do this.

If all follows the pattern of the past, these changes will be before next iPhone comes out, i'm so glad Verizon got the iPhone, not!!

I just got off the phone with Sprint. Their packages aren't bad at all. Yeah, at first I was put off by their 10 Premium Smartphone fee, but then realized I wasn't paying 30 bucks for each data plan made it seem a lot more enticing. Also, I like how it's unlimited mobile to mobile no matter what carrier you are calling and your minutes (not including unlimited nights and weekends) is reserved strictly for landline use.

They lady didn't mention "Sprint to Home", which I read about online, but using Google Voice with that offers even more savings if you set it up correctly it seems.

Just waiting to hear from more friends with Sprint to find out how reliable the network is around here, etc. I will be calling Time Warner tomorrow to find out what kind of deal I can get on landline phone (or drop it all together), TV and Broadband for Home computers. I think I'm about done with Big Red.

This is the problem. For a lot of people sprint sucks. That leaves att and T-Mobile, and god knows you'd be better off with Verizon than either of them.

My thoughts exactly. My friends near me have dropped calls with Sprint but deal with it for the price. I used to have T-Mobile but switched to Verizon as the savings were not worth it. I had ATT a long time ago but left due to bad service and it hasn't gotten better. Besides, ATT isn't any cheaper than Verizon and I'd have problems. No thank you...

I honestly don't know what to think. I don't know if I should jump ship and switch to Sprint or stay with verizon and get screwed. If I stay with verizon I'll have to set up yet another contract with a home internet provider because I can easily exceed Verizon's highest data package in a month. They push out these super fast phones that have super fast internet and then tell you you can only use a smidgen of what's available. Ugh. I hate you Verizon.

I'm going to wait and see what kind of deals they come out with. I have 5 lines and we average around 50g of data(that's for all the lines) a month and pay a 355 month bill. Sprint isn't to bad around here so if it goes up we will more than likely change as long as the wife oks it.

Re: FierceWireless: Verizon will kill 'grandfathered' unlimited d

All of you threatening to leave where are you going to go. ATT already has tiered data so that's not an option. If T-Mobiles coverage were good enough most of you would have left already. And if you're thinking about Sprint the Unlimited Data doesn't do you much good if your download speeds are 300-500 Kbits/sec - YES that's KBITs (NOT Mbits). Everyone's best bet (unfortunately) is going to wait for one of those double data promotions (which will give you 4 GB for $30, 10 GB for $50 and 20 GB for $80). I would love to go to something like T-Mobiles Wal-Mart PrePaid for $30/month (100 minutes, unlimited, uncapped data up to 5 GB and unlimited throttled after that) - however I want to be able to use my phone and T-Mobile isn't any good in my area. So good luck to all of you talking about leaving VZW over this - the sentiments great but the reality isn't very good. Maybe 2 years from now when Sprint's LTE service is decent it might be an option (of course if they get much new business they may have to terminate their unlimited plan also).

Some of us are lucky enough to live in areas where Sprint is set to go live with LTE soon.

I'm sure it's the inevitable, and Sprint will follow suit accordingly. There is the small hope though that they are hurting for subscribers right now and well...… They have more incentive to not piss off customers like Verizon and AT&T.

What about if you're already on a 4g device with unlimited data? Are they going to restructure my plan? Or wait till the next time I upgrade phones?

I'm completely against killing off unlimited data. I've read over the year or so that people are using 10-50gb a month streaming tv shows, music, netflix etc. If your doing all that maybe you should buy a home Internet connection. Unlimited data has never truly been unlimited and now Verizon is just enforcing their policies. I've used 5gb once or twice and average around 3gb. It's those that are download bittorrents, and using 50gb a month abusing the system while us more reasonable people who have home Internet or use wifi when doing a heavy load suffer. I also realize Verizon encourage all this by teasing us with lte and netflix.

Yes i know its the principle of Verizon changing the plan. I know i just pissed a few people off.

Sorry just venting the free ride is over. Eventually home Internet will go tierd as well.

Re: FierceWireless: Verizon will kill 'grandfathered' unlimited d

I just checked my 5 lines usage. I have 4 days left in my billing cycle.

Now considering I pay $150/month ($30/line) for data this is what I use:

Line 1: 1.93 GB
Line 2: 0.37 GB
Line 3: 0.08 GB
Line 4: 0.07 GB
Line 5: 1.76 GB

So go ahead Verizon offer shared data. Hell, I can take a 10GB/$100 month plan and come out saving me $50 a month and have plenty of data.

Sure they will make money off some people but I am willing to bet the majority of people are similar to me and actually Verizon stands to LOSE money on switching those people.

I think it's unfair for VZW to take unlimited away from grandfathered customers. Doesn't the signed contract guarantee us our unlimited data? Why is VZW free to change the rules in the middle of the game? The contract seems to protect VZW while obligating the paying customer.

I cant even understand why lines 2, 3, and 4 have a data plan/smartphone. $90 for that?! :-)

I just laugh because my dad is constantly asking me "Im not going over on my internet, am I?" I just tell him "Not by a long shot."

Strain on the network, bandwidth, etc.

Seriously?

Well why do people stream Netflix from their mobile phones?
