File removal question.

Ok guys, I am getting closer. I used total commander, great program. I cant search from the main menu because my phone is not rooted but I used USER directory and it let me select "files" and I could see the file but........I can to anything with the files in the download directory. At the bottom is says let total commander take control of files and I said ok but it popped back to the directory menu. I am so close.

You checked maybe its in Google drive?

Ok, sounds promising! Is the file in the actual directory called /storage/emulated/0/Download? Show us a screenshot of the file information reported by Total Commander.

I found it in ///_downloads. Cant move, rename or delete it. Google files is too basic.

The exact directory name is "///_downloads"? That's not the typical download directory, which should be called "/Download." Can you show a screenshot of where you see that?

If it's really called "///_downloads", then I'd wonder if it's some protected system directory that doesn't allow direct user access.

Thats why i was asking check Google drive , either was moved there or file doesn't exist anymore especially 2 years ago you never leave that in internal storage for safe keeping lot of these file manager can dump it as clean up in 6 month mark .

Mustang, I did check the google drive, nothing. You have to have a gmail account for a google drive right? I never use one. I downloaded the file from chrome. So if the file was moved to an area over 2 years ago are there apps to clean these areas with out rooting the phone. I will get a pic of the ///download dir

Yeah you would have to be signed in , if there apps that could get that im not aware, probably be shady ones if so.

If you have a Google account, you have access to Google Drive. Are you saying you don't have a Google account at all? You're not using any Google services at all on your S9?

That's weird, I've never seen that before. If you tap the "downloads" folder there, what does it show on the top of the screen on the next screen? Does it still say ///_downloads?

Do you have any download directories on your SD card? When you installed Total Commander, you didn't install any of the various plugins, right?

My phone does not have an SD card. That I know. Yes when I click on ///downloads or ///download is says that on the top of the screen. Only why I can see the file is if I select +user defined and then "files".
