AC Question

My partner had just bought the Huawei P10 3 days ago.

It's been working fine, but today when he tried unlocking the phone with the fingerprint scanner it wouldn't work and asked for a password.

It also said that the password would be required every 3 days.

Is there any way this can be turned off and just use the fingerprint scanner?

Any help would be appreciated

Welcome to Android Central! This is actually the norm for Nexus devices (https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/6285273?hl=en):

"Unlock with your backup method

For security, you'll need to use your backup PIN, pattern, or password:

When your fingerprint isn't recognized after a few tries
After restarting (rebooting) your device
After switching to a different user on the device
After more than 48 hours have passed since you last unlocked using your backup method"

I know about this, but he hadn't done anything different and it says the password will need to be changed every 3 days.

This doesn't seem normal. My Samsung doesn't do that.

It says the password has to be changed every 3 days, or it says it has to be re-entered every 3 days? If the latter, it might be something the manufacturer added as an informational message for the users. Users are often not aware of this requirement, and therefore don't realize how important it is to remember their backup password, so perhaps the manufacturer realized this and added that message as a reminder.
