Ah, I thought you were talking about Iris scan. Still believe too bad they ditched it... probably to avoid the notch.
I don't believe anyone that uses Face ID with cameras only has used it for secured transaction so I guess it is generally abandoned.
Apple Face ID doesn't use cameras from what I read. It uses an IR sensor along with a projector that the IR sensor uses. Hence the need for the notch.

I believe the infra-red was for Iris.... face u-lock can use a depth sensor, that is what iPhone does. Again, if it was that easy you assume they would have done that.
