Fingerprint Scanner Not Working Well

If the FPS is the reason you got the phone and now need to return it, probably shouldn't have gotten the phone in the first place. The FPS should not be the soul reason to get a phone this expensive.

Na, the fact that they updated o e device in a timely manner and didn't do the same with the other is why it'd be going back.
At this price point? No excuses. None.

just got my phone....initially the FPS was hit or miss. while setting up
I received update and it's working great

One week later, fps 99% accurate, with in 1 second unlock. Pre surpplied screen protector still on the phone, touch sensitivity off. More than happy

Good to hear things are working for you :)

Some interesting observations.

The first time I tried to register my finger print I thought there was something wrong with the phone. It kept saying Press Harder, Press Harder, Press Harder. I thought I was going to bust the glass on the phone by pushing so hard. I thought to myself that I definitely did not have this problem registering my fingerprint and I never once got a "Press Harder" when trying to register my fingerprint on the S10... it was easy and seamless with very little pressure required.

I had the same experience setting it up. I was scared I would bust the glass from pushing so hard on it.

A co worker of mine who has an S9+ told me the glass is a lot strong than you think, and he squeezed his phone very hard to show me. Although it still does make ya scared that you could be damaging something inside the phone from pressing so hard on the screen. For some reason that keeps sticking in my head.

I gave up today, paid a $50 restock fee and returned the phone. I personally don't care if the FPS reader is capacative, ultrasonic or pixie dust, I expect it to work, at least close to the 90+% that I see on my S8 and the S7 edge before that. No learning curve, lots of people are doing it all wrong, etc. When I saw today's Samsung message saying it would get better in future updates, that's when I knew that I was making the right decision since based on how 'quickly' they update devices, I chose to cut my loss and move on.

I wasn't paid to be a Beta tester, it's a $900 device not a Blu special, so I expect more.

Curious what phone you going get?

I was having a lot of issues on my S10+'s finger scanner but not anymore.

The fix? Super weird. Wasn't able to find any other similar issues on Google.

I was using the fingerprint image as a guide to put my finger on when setting up, as well as to unlock on the lock screen. It seems, at least for me, either the image or the sensor is misaligned in my unit.

After registering 1 finger slightly ABOVE the fingerprint image, it works 99% of the time, essentially instantly. Even using the tip of my index finger, no problems.

Am I the only one that had this? Maybe my unit is faulty from a misplaced or misaligned sensor?

Would love to know if this is common or if there are similar results with others?

So you didn't have to cover the print?

So you didn't have to cover the print?

If I fully cover the finger print image, it's hit or miss, mostly miss. If I place my fingers north of the finger print image, barely if at all touching the image, it works flawlessly.

Super weird.

I got errors during learning if I didn't cover it

My husband set his fp up as soon as he got the phone and he hasn't had a problem. I said did you get the update he said he wasn't sure he thinks he got something this am but he set the phone up last night. He said he has no problem at all.

I've said it on another thread, I must have the best S10 available. No issues whatsoever with the fingerprint sensor. I think most ppl prolly just mash their finger on the screen without understanding you need to learn to PLACE your fingerprint correctly. Take some time to know where to place it. You'll develop memory for it. Christ almighty this is so overblown.

Only the Face unlock saves the day for me as it kicks in before I even need to use the FPS, so I only need the FPS for authentication, it bothers me though as the face unlock is not secure. Without Face unlock the FPS would be really annoying.

I see Samsung have acknowledged it now though, will be interesting what they could do with software, an indicator /guide on the AOD would be useful

Wrong. That is not at all what is happening. Read the thread.
