Is there a poll about how many times the smeared their camera lens reaching for it? :-). That's my concern.

I would imagine there's at least two dozen popular cases on the market that make it easier to naturally reach the FPS more often than not. My coworker has the S8+ and he said at first it sucked, but he got the case and now he says only very rarely does he have a problem, if at all. I'm sure the same will happen with the Note 8.

But people who don't own nor ever intend to own a Samsung phone will still continue to tell you how terrible it is. 😂

Right?! I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but sometimes I just wanna yell: Why are u complaining about something you have no interest in? How do you know how terrible it is if you've never tried it out?

I hate the FPS location on all the 2017 s8s, that being said I use smart lock with my watch, face recognition and just hard tap the on screen home button and wallah I don't need the crummy rear FPS and its just as fast a front facing FPS.

Just set the phone up to be unlocked with a hard press in settings and use one of the smart lock options like bluetooth or location, it works really great!

Another thought I had on this whole deal, is how Samsung is going to get to the point where they stop listening to people altogether. Everyone used to bi*** and moan about plastic Samsung phones on the S3 and S4. Samsung listened and came out with glass and metal phones, and then everyone complained because the glass is slippery and fragile. Everyone complained about touchwiz, and in my opinion Samsung has improved it so much, but no one gives them credit for the improvements. Everyone was sick of the physical button on the front of the Samsung devices, so Samsung got rid of that and now everyone is pissed that the FPS moved. When companies realize that it's impossible to please anyone, they stop trying. Maybe we could think for half a second about unintended consequences before going on a crusade against a company and demanding they change something that works just fine?

..Samsung is going to get to the point where they stop listening to people altogether.

I get your point, but this is unlikely, as they will lose sales if their customers are truly unhappy, and express why. Plus, listening to your customers is business 101.

I think mostly tech blogs and folks in forums like this were the loudest. I heard very few "normal" users complaining much about that. Also, I read it more as "Samsung, great phone, but your plastic back makes it look a bit cheap, you should change it to make it more premium looking".

.. Everyone complained about touchwiz, and in my opinion Samsung has improved it so much, but no one gives them credit for the improvements. ..
Again, tech bloggers and users in forums complained some. Most people using the phone don't even know what TouchWiz is. And I have seen improvements and I have seen bloggers writing about improvements to Touchwiz, almost universally over the last year or 2.

.. Everyone was sick of the physical button on the front of the Samsung devices, so Samsung got rid of that and now everyone is pissed that the FPS moved.

What?? Who was sick of the physical home button? About 1% of the 1%. Everyone I know HATES that they removed the physical home button. I am mad about it too. I think purists and again the tech bloggers who love pure Android and not much else.

The FPS position is poor. Folks providing proper feedback to Samsung is what inspires and drives better products and innovation. If no one complained and they just left it there, would that be better? A bad FPS location isn't the end of the world, but it is something that should be easy to use and effortless on a flagship, expensive product like this. YMMV of course ..

Plenty of people were sick of the physical button. If you are shocked to hear that, you must not have visited this or other Android sites for some time. Everytime I jumped into the forums for Samsung devices or read reviews of new Samsung devices, all I'd read was people saying it was time for software buttons.

I'm sure folks on internet forums hasve all kinds of opinions.

Folks "in these forums" being upset about something doesn't necessarily equate the the general public caring about it , and often it turns out the Joe public has the opposite opinion. Go walk around a mall and ask GS7 users if they want their home button removed. I wonder what the responses would be :-)

I don't doubt that at all. But unfortunately the people who dislike something are going to make themselves heard and sometimes it results in manufacturers listening and making changes. I would bet that most of the people who were the loudest about it, are the ones who didn't own a Samsung and had no plans to buy one. Hey.....just like we're seeing now with the FPS sensor placement!

I think the number whining about it is vastly overstated by those who do.
It is just that those happy with something don't need to yell about it, they just get on.
So the negative views get vastly more visibility in relative terms, without necessarily representing the range of opinions.

AMEN! For the people in the back who didn't hear you! LOL

It's not just the issue of having it at the back. If it's the same location as Pixel, you will hear 90% less complaints. It's the awkward placement of the FPS beside the camera which is drawing all the criticism.

I actually don't feel like the complaining would decrease. It's what happens here on the boards about any phone that hasn't come out yet until it actually comes out. It's like a ritual. I'm used to it, but it still never ceases to amaze me. It's just a fingerprint sensor LoL.

But to those who really need it, and use it. I hope that you find a happy medium...if you choose to get the phone.

The difference here is that it IS a problem, it IS too high, and it IS too close to the camera. People do complain here all the time about everything, yes. But you can't conflate that with assuming all complaints are not valid.

I usually think about it this way: There are the folks here who do complain about everything, which is not helpful (these are folks who IMO will never be happy). There are also folks here who never listen to any complaints, and that is also not helpful IMO (these are folks who look past any potential issue because they like a phone or a brand/company). I think the key is for each person to try to actually understand which issues really are problems for them. It sounds like this one is not an issue for you.

p.s. I think if the FPS was actually lower in the back like on the Pixel, there would be less complaints because the Pixel FPS works great (but certainly there would be some complaints :-)

No conflation or assumptions here. I'm just saying folks like to complain, not all folks. That's just not a fair assessment to make, so I wouldn't. I actually just sit and laugh because there were a million other posts like this as if that enough were made, the FPS would magically get moved at the last second. LoL

And you're actually correct, there is a happy medium. I don't fall in either category this go around. I just don't care. It's a FPS sensor. I don't even lock my phone, but if I chose to go back to that route...there are so many other biometric locks, pins and swipes. I'm a true hippie in this sense because I just go with the flow. If you don't like the FPS there, get another phone. It's truly that simple. If there are things about a device I can't get with, I don't buy it. But I also don't complain about it.

Besides, I've stated to the few that this actually does affect that I hope they can find a happy place in all of this.
