Firmware update 11-14-2011 screwed up my Tab

Huh. Has anyone else tried this update? Just how safe is it? I just checked and it's telling me it's available but I'm leery about jumping in.

This is so annoying - if it were like Linux on my laptop I'd already have it installing, damn the torpedoes, etc.

This is getting annoying, the long waiting time combined with absolutely no information at all. The customer support is completely oblivious to the problem, I wrote with 4 seperate people from support and neithere seemed to even have heard about this . As a knee jerk reaction they all suggested to do a factory reset and when that did not help they defaulted to "send it in". I could probably wait another week but I would appreciate some information on the progress from samsung, maybe leak it out semi-officially. Because if I have to wait a month or so I would go and flash a custom ROM but I'd rather stay vanilla and not lose my data and settings. :-(

Samsung is aware of it, if you call them and tell them you got screwed by the failed firmware update they will offer to have you send it in to them for flashing.

Wow! Since I recently got mine back from Samsung after flashing back to 3.1, I am going to wait a few weeks to see how this plays out. I absolutely hate being without my tablet!

But are you able to connect via wifi and is the screen rotating?

WiFi is working fine and the screen is rotating. BTW: I've installed ADW Launcher and much prefer it over stock Honeycomb. It's faster and more flexible. In case anyone cares...

My Galaxy Tab updated to 3.2 last night, and when I got up this morning it said Update Successful, now running firmware version Android 3.2. Everything seems to be working on mine. No issues as of yet.

This was the post that convinced me to go ahead and try the update this morning. Although, it's probably a newer version.

I started the update, plugged it in and let it run. Probably took about an hour and a half to complete.

Thanks, I'll post my progress and any issues I encounter later...........my ISP is going to get pissed with me soon, so much uploading and downloading at the moment.

Got the revised update. I applied it via my computer and everything seems to be back to normal. :)

Took the Plunge

I threw caution to the wind and decided to go for it...

- Went with OTA wifi. Kept my unrooted Tab plugged into the power and had it right next to the wifi router. Taking no 'unnecessary' risks.

- Download of the package only took 6-7 minutes.

- Asked me to install the package ... held my breath and clicked ok.

- Tab reboots.

- Ugly install bar starts to march across the screen. The bar moves pretty fast until it reaches the high 30's. Keeps at 38% for what seems like forever (probably more like 1 minute). Sweating a little.

- I stare at the damn bar and WILL IT to hit 39. Hits 39. I exhale. It sticks at 39. I come to the epiphany that it's not going to move faster if I stare at it.

- I go and finish my coffee.

- Heard the boot chime in the background and ran to the Tab. Glowing Samsung logo. Still glowing. Still glowing. Stop glowing dammit! Pray to the gods that it is not stuck in a reboot loop.

- SUCCESS! Unlock the home screen and the Software update alert tells me that the 'Device updated to version P7510UEKMN'. I take their word for it.

The update itself took about 25-30 minutes. All apps and data intact. Not sure what has changed. Moving between screens actually seemed MORE laggy at first. I decided to reboot the Tab and the lag was gone. Hopefully this update corrects that bug (which I got around by going to the Settings and back out again to clear the lag -- which is why I think it's a bug). The fill screen mode is pretty hit and miss. Just makes bad graphics even worse.

Good luck all!!

SIGH.....downloaded the update hit and hit go.

Tab rebooted and has been sitting at the Samsung GALAXY TAB 10.1 black screen for over an hour.

I am heart broken. What should I do now?

Grrrrrr. I had to do a factory reset, the thing I desperately tried to avoid the whole time. Only then Kies was able to connect to the tablet and promtly offered to update. It didn't work OTA even with static IP before and after factory reset. Seems to work now, only that I have to install and setup everything from scratch. Had I known that, I would not have to have lived with the borked tab for so long.
But oh well, thanks for the fast fix to Samsung anyways! :)

I had to factory reset too. i started listing the kies error messages, bricked update, wifi trouble, factory reset issue (needed to unplug from pc, but the error message didnt help me figure that out).. oh also, turn off developer mode to do anything with kies (error message won't help you there either).. I'm kind of much preferring my non-samsung android devices to the samsung ones.

Did you do the update OTA or Kies?
