Last night I was on a work call and had my phone on speaker. Placed it next to me on my bed on a bundle of blankets. It slid off and hit the only part of my laptop with something protruding. Now there is a little chip in the aluminum right on the edge of the display. I actually feel a bit relieved now that it's finally happened. And this phone is certainly mine now if that makes sense it has a definitely characteristic. A unique identifier.

My only concern is that since the chip is literally right next to the display will that weaken that area of the display for future drops.

Hard to qualify your concern but I would case it at this point.

It's hard to tell with those kinds of cracks. And it would also depend on how your phone falls and the part of the phone that hits the ground first, etc. But as was already mentioned, I'd slap a case on it. That first drop, chip or crack is always the worst! Like that song, "The First Cut is the Deepest"... But it will be good! :)

Yup, me, too. I learned the hard way with my iPhone 6 Plus when I grew tired of having a case and one day went like, "Ah, I don't need no stinkin' case." Less than a week later, I dropped it from a couple feet onto carpet and the screen shattered instantly, despite having a tempered glass screen protector. Based on that experience, my brand-new Pixel 2 went into a case before I took it off the store counter.

How awful! Did the glass from the screen at least stay within the tempered glass; or did everything shatter? :(

Did you get the Pixel 2 or the 2 XL?

No, the screen just cracked but stayed in place. The phone still works fine. I just got annoyed with the constant remarks from people who said, "Dude, you need a new phone" and sometimes it was difficult deciphering what was on the screen. The phone was paid off in full, so even though I hadn't planned to upgrade it this early, I welcomed the opportunity to try out the Google Pixel 2. I got the regular one, not the XL. I grew very tired of the iPhone 6 Plus' size, so I didn't even look at the larger version of the Pixel. I wanted to go back to a smaller-size phone. So far, no regrets whatsoever.

I'm glad the phone was still usable for you, but I definitely understand how it would be hard to see your messages and the screen in general. Glad you are enjoying your Pixel 2! I too am sticking with smaller-sized phones for the time being. I'll opt for the smaller Pixel 2 when I upgrade, as well.

Are the P2 and XL2 serviceable? I had my 1s Gen for about 6 months and dropped it. Screen cracked and Google told me that it wasn't worth fixing.

Oh no! I'm so sorry that happened to you! It wasn't worth it - as in, it would cost the same for getting a new phone as it would to fix your Pixel?

No they actually said the screen was not a replaceable part. It actually kinda soured me on Google and Huawei. And i really enjoyed the pure Android experience. But my Note 8 has been a huge improvement from my previous note 3. The Note 3 was a pig with Samsungs old software. The Note 8 software runs really smooth. IMO

Yes, the screen was replaceable. I can't understand why you were told that it wasn't.

Oh no! That's too bad. Perhaps try for a second opinion with regards to the screen?

Ah that sucks and I'm sorry to hear it but this makes no sense. Some jackass put a ding in my 3-month old car the other day and it was my unique car before the dent and after. The ding doesn't make it feel any more mine now.
