First negative review I have seen... blames Pentile

For the color yellow, pentile has an issue. They even mention it on a blog about saving energy on the phone. It causes yellow to appear mustard. If you download color palette from the market, you can make the display show yellow and it is definitely off. I also went full bright green and it looked great. They definitely improved the screen somehow. I am returning the phone tomorrow because of this. I hope it can be fixed through software but I refuse to hold my breath. Ever since I bought my Xoom, it has been a fiasco that I am not playing with the Bionic. I wish I bought it from costco. That way I would have had three months to see if they addressed the issue. Assuming they even acknowledge it.

I checked FFFF00 with the color palette app (100% brightness), it's off a bit (not as you imply) - not a concern to me..

If you have a highend calibrated desktop display, compare HERE and report

Stop speaking in absolutes. The color is spot on to me, but it might not be to you or anyone else. We all see things differently, especially when you're talking about something that, thanks to it's design, can be perceived differently by different people. What i see is a yellow that's identical to what I get on my iPad or computer screen. You may see otherwise.

Sorry, the company who created pentile posted the blog. And you are right, some people are more sensitive to color. In which case, I say as a warning, check it out, and if it does bother you, pass on the phone.

Still off color. I think the rest of everything about this phone is great though. Pentile may have some drawback as far as somethings 'pixelated' for some but i dont have a prob with rgbw pentile.

The Bionic's screen sucks. At least that's *my* opinion.

It's not so much the grainy appearance - I can live with that.

The problem is as soon as I picked it up and started looking at it, my eyes started to hurt for some reason. I realized then why - I can see the screen "refreshing". It has some wierd scanning effect going on.

Basically if I try to read black text on a white background it makes my eyes "jitter" because it feels like the text is moving. It's like I can see the refresh rate.

I think this is probably the reason too, because if a CRT or LCD monitor is set to 60hz I can see the flicker, I can tell it's not right. I have to crank them up to 75Hz to be happy.

So it's a dealbreaker for me. I can't stand reading anything on the bionic screen. It just looks terrible...The droid prime should be awesome because that's being made by Samsung and they know how to make displays that look good. Unfortunately phones made by Samsung usually also have terrible signal issues. *ugh*

We start with the premise that each of us "sees" differently. My aging eyes and minor color blindness probably helps me out here I don't have any problem with reading print. But I have long used a photo for my wallpaper on my OG Droid--largely sky and sea and river. On the Bionic it is terribly pixilated and I am disappointed I can't use it. But I don't notice the pixilation anywhere else. Go figure.

I doubt anybody has better eyesight than me, and I like the screen. I have the same wallpaper issue. The issue is that the Bionic uses a higher resolution, so it stretches the picture to fit the screen. We have to use higher res wallpaper now.

A friend of mine got the Bionic and I had an opportunity go mess with it last night. I truly believed some people were making a mountain out of a mole hill about the screen. I couldn't believe it when I turned the phone on, and the screen door effect people keep talking about was plain as day to me. Looks horrible in my opinion and would definitely turn me off the phone. I pretty much wasn't impressed all around. The phone seems really thick, and performance had some hiccups. Its a shame.

It's not thick. Go hold a thunderbolt and we'll talk.

Let me rephrase. Thicker than I was expecting it to be. It felt very large in the hand

5-second reviews aren't very reliable. The phone feels and performs great.

Just my opinion. Take it with a grain of salt. None of the dual core phones have performed to my expectations yet, which is why I'm still rocking my Nexus S. I just can't justify "upgrading" when these dual cores are stuttering and lagging where the Nexus doesn't. My biggest dislike about the phone was the screen though. I understand it won't matter for everyone, but what's the point of a huge touch screen if it looks like that? They need to figure out a way to improve that quick

I have read about the pentile issue in various places. I am planning on upgrading to some form of Android phone (from a Blackberry) in the near future (my upgrade period has been up for a while now... just waiting on the proper phone). A buddy of mine has an Atrix, which is supposed to have the same pentile technology. I stared at that thing, looked at it through a magnifying glass, and for the life of me I cannot see what people are talking about. Mind you, I'm in my 40s and my vision is pretty bad. I then went to a local Verizon store to stare at a Bionic in person. I still can't see it.

Not to dismiss the concerns of those to claim to be able to tell the difference. Just that if you're like me, I suggest actually fiddling with one extensively before giving heed to the pentile issue, because I personally can't see it.

I agree, it seems to depend on the person. I thought people were just nitpicking, or making a bigger deal out of it than it actually was, until I held it. The screen door effect was clear as day to me. I was extremely surprised, and very disappointed. For the record, I have perfect vision, but I think seeing the pattern may be due to a different visual issue than just quality of sight

Gherkin: Don't feel bad. I am on my 40s too and the screen looks just fine to me. Could be the first advantage of bad vision! I do have other problems of sporadic freezing and my screen is detached on the right side of the phone. Still waiting for stock at my local Costco for a return.

Do you remember in particular where it was stuttering/lagging?

Just random minor stuttering with screen transitions. Flipping through homescreens, or bringing up menus. It was very minor, and I've noticed the same things in the EVO 3D and Photon which is why ive still got my Nexus S

fud, the Bionic is so fail, can't run an OS. Can't see the screen that dang one pixel. What screen transitions? more like screen crapitions...

Now, my experience has been polar opposite. I used to believe the SG2 hype, but having researched both devices, Google's acquisition of Moto, Sammy's Apple clones are being pulled, the Bionic is just a better decision for the long run.

As far as performance, this phone blazes. WepTop is a "new" interface, so it would be arduous for any newbie. With time and so practice and willingness to learn, I think most people would be surprised. Don't EVER take small post counts and numerous one liners into account. Go try the phone. I assure you, it does not stutter, and text becomes "unreadable" on the GS2 before the Bionic on fade out "oh the advantages of that nonlinear tile matrix." (My opinion, don't hate)
