First smart phone, I-Phone 5 or Galaxy S3?

think my final thought on this is be careful which eco system/platform you choose because youll probably form a loyalty/investment to/in it thatl be hard to break :)

global s3, UK. Ask me anything and ill reply even if its just an intelligent (or stupid) guess ;)

I just bought the S3 a couple of days ago. It's also my first smartphone. I have absolutely no regrets, the amount of customization you can do with android is amazing (if you're into customization). If not, everything becomes simpler with the iPhone. Both phones are great in their own ways though. :)

I don't know why people ask these kind of questions on a GS3 forum lol people will go with the GS3...U should probably compare features and see, but from my experience, the ability to download music any music from the Internet str8 to my phone, MicroSD card, and amazing camera has me won with my S3

think its because the s3 is the first so called "iphone killer" in the states mate and a lot of people just think of the phone instead of the o/s ;)

I have to beg to differ to those saying jailbreaking is no comparison to android. Your either ignorant or really biased (no offense here)

Jail breaking allows you to do everything you can do on android and even more. Activator (for those that know what it is) is probably the best software addition ever created for any software. It's awesome. There is no android equivalent. Many other tweaks do lots of things too. The only thing iOS jail break is missing is a different keyboard. Changing the color isn't all that. Changing the keyboard would be awesome though. But yeah. Jail breaking is probably the best thing I could've done to my idevices. No need for me to go to iOS 6

I agree Jail breaking makes the iphone a LOT better, but don't forget about rooting your Android which allows you to do things just as good

What's activator? I would be surprised if there wasn't an equivalent app for android whatever it may be.

New Activator Actions For iOS 5 - Tweet From Anywhere & Notification Center - YouTube

You can actually do more with a jailbroken iphone then a rooted android device. The reason is because ios has crap ton of jailbreak Devs and they put out a lot of tweaks and apps. That's why I find it stupid when ppl say they love their android device cuz they can customize and with the iphone you can't. When you jailbreak a ios device there's tons of customization and tweaks you can do. If you root on android you're sure going to jailbreak if you move to ios. I learned a lot about ios from looking at videos on youtube just today since I'm thinking of trying the iphone 5.

Jail breaking from all the ios devices I've played with its so resource intensive, it becomes a mute point because after a while the phone just Boggs down, since there is no custom kernel to manage the devices resources, and that's just to allow you to meet the features available in android , as far as the development, there are a few people searching for exploits on each release of ios but not enough to match the support available on android from Android Central, XDA, Rootzwiki, Samsung Forums, etc. Not to mention the legacy support offered for older devices, unlike the iphone devs, some developers support older phones till this day... just look at the LG Optimus thread.....

I think you'd enjoy the S3 more and it has more value for money than the iPhone 5. Also, its quite ahead of its time so you don't have to worry about it been dated.

I think it's been attempted, but it hasn't been released to public. Only tweaks, themes, and other bells and whistles are available through jailbreaking :p

I'd call myself ignorant to say it but that's cause when I jailbroke my iTouch I barely did anything with it, I didn't explore it much cause I didn't know what everything did so the user-friendliness doesn't really match that of the general iOS device. Kinda defeats the purpose IMO.

Jailbreaking and customizing an iPhone will turn it into a slow, glitchy, useless piece of crap. Jailbreak devs for iOS pale in comparison in numbers to Android devs. Want to know why? Because 99% percent of nerds who program tweaks and hacks wouldn't touch an iPhone with a 10 foot pole. Just take a look on /g.

let me first ask you few thing----- does carring a charger every where bother you? does putting a huge battery pack on back of your iphone 5 that makes it looks like a huge brick bother you?
and you have to make a choice of how much memory to have in your iphone 5 with no future memory upgrade does that bother you? and fyi the lithium battery that is inside the iphone is not swapable
if it fails to hold charge you will need to take it to a apple store and its covered only 1 year which most of the lithium battery by that time will wear out and not able to hold charge and bear in mind your contract will be 2 years to get a discount on iphone 5 if the battery goes bad which they all do then you need to pay arm and a leg and take it to apple store !!!! now if you are willing to bear with these handicap then you should get a iphone 5

now if you decide to get sgs3 the you memory you can get a 16gb memory and purchase a 64gb hc memory card for upgrade! =90gb wow
you can buy additional battery ,i perfer 2 extra battery with external charger so i dont need to fight with other apple iphone user in starbucks and fighting for the power outlet table!
not to mention sgs3 fast procecessor and 2 gb of ram which that is waht i have in a laptop and above all the price!!!! of the samsung galaxy s 3
i can watch a move on my phone and listening to music on the train and all i have to do is open the back cover and swap my extra battery and voala!!!

It's extremely easy to replace a battery in most apple devices and my 4S still held a charge a year in. Don't give your experiences as fact.
