This is where i'm stuck. using odin 3.07
Two questions:
- does your phone already have the stock 4.3 firmware loaded?
- the file that's listed in the Odin log - what firmware is that based on?

If I had to guess, your phone already had 4.3 (with the Knox bootloader) installed and you're trying to write an earlier firmware, which won't work.

Couple of questions:

1. Does your computer show your phone shortly after you plug your phone into your computer? If not, you might need the latest USB drivers from the Samsung web site.

2. This one is really stupid, but is your phone in Odin mode when you're trying this? You get to Odin mode on your phone this way:

Power your phone off, hold the volume down/home/power keys until you see a yellow triangle, then press the volume up key to access "odin or download mode".

At this point you're ready to open Odin on your computer, and if your USB drivers are working, it should be ready to go. Be sure that you have the latest version of Odin, of course.

Hi. 1. I have tried countless versions of drivers to no avail.
2. yep I put it in download mode.

I think it has something to do with cynogen? as it's only after I installed cynogen that the GT-I9300 doesn't connec to the computer. or is recognised in on odin.

CM doesn't replace the stock Download mode component so it shouldn't have anything to do with that.

When you connect the phone to the computer do you at least hear the 'boop-beep' sound (that occurs whenever you connect a USB device)?

Do you have access to a different computer (or a different phone to try on the same computer)?

Hey it does go boop-beep (when turned on) but nothing else happens, unfortunately I do not have another computer.

I have even uninstalled Kies as I read that Odin and Kies do not play nicely together.

That means that the computer IS recognizing that a USB device has been plugged in.
If you look in Device Manager (type devmgmt.msc at the "Run" prompt) does it show any devices with yellow bangs?

Unfortunately this is something difficult to troubleshoot via the forums. Perhaps you have a Windows PC expert friend that could help you out?

no yellow bangs. in device manager. Damn so were thinking it's just the computer?

Thanks for the help GSDer!!

You ARE using a data cable and not just a charge-only cable, right?
Have you tried different USB ports on the computer?

think am using a data cable?

Before I installed Cynogen I had no issues connecting to the computer.

I have tried different usb ports too,

I don't suppose you have a friend with a Windows-based computer that you can try this on?

I find it hard to believe that CM screwed up the ability of the phone to be recognized on your computer. AFAIK the Download (aka Odin) mode is untouched.
