Flat/Raised keyboard (pics)

it also looks like the raised one has a completely gold dpad. mine only has a gold center.

They both look like they have a completely gold keypad. This is either just a lighting issue, or something else.

Geez. Someone comes along with helpful info and you shoot first. Give him a break. I do understand that there are lots of teens with nothing to do but give out intentionally misleading info, but not everyone is in that camp.

How about a keyboard without that cursor pad on the right and just a little 5 way instead?

I tried to tell you guys that my last droid had the bumped up keyboard... you wont listen! lol The one I have now has the flat one... OP: are there any differences in how tight the screen is between the units? The one that I had with the raised keyboard seemed to be allot tighter build...

I just got mine last friday it has the raised keys. The screen doesn't do that wiggle thing that I noticed on the one in the store. :D

i believe someone should just call verizon to get the official word on this. While there may not be that big of a difference between the so called raised keyboard and flatter ones, it would be interesting to know if this is indeed a newer build and intentional, or just the nature of mass manufacturing and fluctuations in the physical build. I have extensively searched online and couldn't find any official word, but that doesnt mean this isn't true.

If anyone does talk to verizon, please post :) And yes, I do know how painful it is to get on a call with their "support" team, so hats off ahead of time for anyone that is brave enough to do so.

just a note my supposed build date is 39/09 so this is starting to look like it may be a change in their process. remove the battery and find the XX/09 number and post it (and if you're keyboard is raised or not) where XX is seemingly the week of the year. My guess is we'll get a picture of which week this newer build was started.

my build date which is of 2nd pic on original post. (raised keys) is build date: 44/09
Which if the first number is based on what week of the year they built the device. Week 44 is pretty late, meaning later this year or early next year we will begin to see more Droids with raised keyboards.

I just got a 45/09...flat keys, tighter fitting battery cover, good reception (70-85 db) and no slider gap/click.

hmmmmm so maybe the date proves nothing. because your date is more recent than mine and yet you have flat keys...... hmmmmm my belief is that the phones were built in two different plants/facilities.

Made in China here.

lol or that this is just a symptom of the variations in mass manufacturing.

nah, there is no way that the raised keyboard would be so perfectly raised all keys bubbled exactly the same and it be a manufacturing mishap.

not mishap, and im not discounting your theory of different locations. But the different locations might have slightly different process of manufacturing. This does not mean the phones are officially released as diff builds, thats all i'm saying.

moto - what model number is on your serial? mine is shown as made in china as well, so just trying to find out if there is any clear marker that something is different
