I did some searching, but I couldn't find anything. Is there a built in app, or do you need a tuner program from the market?

I'm places where I get poor signal for even 1x speeds and would be neat to use an fm tuner to get some music now and again.

Although the Epics hardware has an FM tuner, it's hit and miss on it working with the roms that were built with it in. Best bet would be to get some music onto your SD card, or use a streaming program that can cache (such as the paid version of Slacker). Cloud programs such as google music, can pre-download your songs for playing in low service areas.

TuneIn wouldn't be of much use in areas without signal. I've also been interested in getting an app to listen to FM radio over my Epic, and have yet to find a solution.

I have music on my sd card. I have since I had a treo back in the day. I get tired of it and over the air talk and sports radio. I'll check tunein.

Tunein is using data. I don't always have data, Need a program that will try to use the fm tuner. Is there one? I tried a few in the market but they didn't seem to work.

I had a Custom Rom(ACS) earlier this year that came with FM tuner software. I never had any success getting it to work but some did. If its that important to you, poke around Android Dev forums and ask some questions.

I don't know about signal issues tgaskill but here's quotation from their site regarding local stations:

"Over 50,000 FM & AM Radio Stations

TuneIn Radio has the largest selection of stations available today. From NPR to The BBC, KEXP to KROQ, you'll quickly find your old favorites and discover new ones."

Also, you can try the app and see if it does what it says. If not, just uninstall it :)

Search for Samsung Galaxy S radio in the Market. The Dev says this only works for the International version of Galaxy S phone. The others, including Epic 4G, have the FM radio receiver disabled either through hardware or software. He has tried without success to get it to work. Tunein radio streams feeds from stations that are available via the net, not by FM broadcast.
