Android Central Question

I'm having trouble with folders on my galaxy s9. The apps keep moving out if the folder & yesterday the folders disappeared all together, but the apps are still there? Is there a way to stop this? It started happening with last system update.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you using the stock OneUI launcher, or a 3rd party launcher?

I'm having the same issue with my Galaxy S9+. My phone had a system update last weekend to the latest update and today, wednesday, all of my folders that I grouped my apps together in disappeared, but the apps are still there, just in a jumbled mess. Why is this happening?

Also, this happened after I had turned airplane mode on and left it secure in a locker at work for about 4 hours. When I took it off airplane mode, the folders were gone.

This is folders on the home screen?

Are we understanding you correctly, the icon of the folder disappears but in its place all of the apps seem to be there? If that is the case what happens when you touch that spot? Is it like opening the folder? Do all of the apps appear in neat rows as if they were in folder view?

Can you make this happen but putting your phone in Air Plane mode and turning it off?

Also please answer the original question posted to the OP about the Launcher.

So, imagine all the apps an S9+ has after being owned for a couple years... games, tools, email, all the crap it comes with originally, etc. Now, all those apps are neatly put into folders in the "app screen grid" not the "home screen grid". And then one day, you put the phone into airplane mode for a couple hours. The power is left on. When you take it off airplane mode, all of the folders you had created were gone and instead you have 8 app screen pages full of all your apps you had placed neatly in folders. That is what we are dealing with. That is the issue I am reporting.

Folders and apps were on the app screen grid. When I touch an app, the app opens, it does not act like a folder. It acts like there are no folders, only apps. The apps were not in neat rows, they were spread randomly over 8 app screen grids. There were different numbers of apps on different pages and werent even filling up entire grids. I had apps from the same original folder that would be on different grids, not the same one. That would have made it much easier to reorganize. I have since made new folders. THANKFULLY putting it in airplane mode and taking it off did not mess them up again. I did do a cache wipe before I reorganized them though, just in case. Not sure if it helped, but it was suggested online.

You'll have to try things out to see what will fix this , did it happen again? How often it happens?
You willing try safe mode for extended period of time ? Or reset some settings ?

I'm glad things went back to normal for the time being. Perhaps you cache wipe did the trick. On a side note, now you know what iPhone users get to experience all the time, every app spread across how many screens. Hahaha. Anyway if anything new breaks let us know.

No, I'm not willing to try those and no it hasnt happened again, so far. Going to put it in the locker on airplane mode now, though. Fingers crossed.

I had iphone for 5 years. The 5 and the 7. You can put apps in folders on iPhones lol... Still cant decide what I like more, iphone or android... iphone is much more streamlined and simple with more restrictions where android is more complicated but less restrictions.. which I thought was great but I really dont use anything on my s9+ that I couldn't use on an iphone. Also, my charger port on my android sucks and hasnt worked properly in a year and it's only 2 years old. And I'm not willing to send it in, wipe the phone or get a new one and have to download all my apps back and sign back in. What a hassle.

Have you already tried cleaning out the port by using a can of compressed air to blow it out, and also a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the contacts? Also, have you tried a different cable? Cables can fail pretty easily.

I've sprayed it out with compressed air multiple times and have tried different cables bought from Verizon specifically for my phone. Still has a really bad connection.

I used to lose my folders when I changed my phone theme. I took a screenshot of the content in every folder so I could rebuild after the change.

I eventually decided I could live with one theme. :)

I found this thread and the description it gave matched a problem I have run into at least three times over the last year or two. Are there any new ideas of why this happens and how I can prevent it? At what seems like random moments 3 or more months apart, app folders on the home screen dissappear and apps are returned alphabetically to the app grid. App folders in the app grid empty and all apps return to the grid in alphabetical order. The folders remain.
I have never been able to reproduce, this and it is hard to see what is in common from one time to the next because so much time goes by between instances. I don't think it has anything to do with airplane mode. I go in and out of it a lot. I also power down to ultra low power saving mode nearly every time I wake up i the middle of the night, so I can take my phone off the charger.
