I've owned the V for about 9 months now, and its been a great phone with a few shortcomings: sometimes sluggish CPU (clocked at 768mhz) and a small touchscreen that makes it hard to type at times. I recently got the slider for my GF, and have spent quite a bit of time using it. The slider is what I wanted in the V from day one. The 800mhz cpu makes everything smooth all the time, the slideout keyboard makes the screen feel ginormous without the on-screen keyboard taking up 80% of the display. And everything else is just as good as the V. Its the perfect phone for the lady, and I'm upgrading to the slider as soon as I can afford it.

I made this switch on Black Friday when I got the phone for 80 bucks. I think for that price it is definitely a worthwhile uprade from the V, but at 200 I am not so sure.

I do like this new device quite a bit, and it is smoother by a noticeable amount. I just wanted to mention that at it's full price tag you might be let down by the fact that this is a nice step not a giant leap forward.

Hmm, my wife has a V but HATES the soft keyboard, this might the the right answer. Her favorite feature of the V is the wireless hotspot; didn't even have to root the V to get this to work. Does an unrooted slider have this capability?

No. An unrooted slider can't act as a hotspot. When you try enabling it through a widget, it will try to enable the hotspot, but fails shortly after. Rooting the Slider will give you ability to use it as a hotspot.

Bought the slider for my wife on cyber monday (she was using the rumor touch) and loves it since day one.

Yep! Went from the OPV to the Slider.. The 800mhz cpu and Gingerbread 2.3.4 are marked improvements over the OPV! Love the slide out keypad.. have mine rooted and overclocked.
Gonna order an extended battery (3600mAh) for about $20 that includes a replacement back cover as the increased thickness of the aftermarket battery will not allow you to use the stock battery cover.

You have yours rooted and overclocked. But thing is you can't over clock the slider. So you deff don't have it overclocked. 800mhz is the maximun cpu output for the slider. You can't go beyond. Not even on drews gingerkernel.
