....and who are planning on upgrading, I would double check which line on your plan is eligible for an upgrade. I just checked and my line was not eligible, even though it was supposed to be. It turns out that the last phone added to a plan gets the upgrade.

You can switch it around, but you need to call sprint service. They said it takes 1 billing cycle to have the primary number switch, but it can take up to 90 days to have the new number be eligible for the upgrade. I just had the primary upgrade number switched on my account and the customer service rep said I should be good to go when the Evo launches, and be assured I will raise hell if I am not.

I just wanted to let you guys and gals know, so you could get things squared away too.

And just in case you ask, they didn't hint at a release date, they just said "summer."

Actually the oldest number on the account is the one that get's the premier status. So, like me if you had to change your phone number you lose the premier status on that line. Just have to place a call to Sprint and have'em change it back.

Nope, not what happen to me. I got my Pre back on June 6, then on Dec 22 my family migrated from VZW to Sprint because of the better prices and formed a family plan under current plan. For some odd reason, my Mother's phone got placed as the phone with the $129.99, my Dad's as $0 and mine as a $19.99, even though my phone is listed as the primary number.

I would advise giving Sprint a call and just making sure.

same here the oldest (my number) and the newest (daughter #2) neither one was set, it was my wife's. Mine was originally setup as the premier but at sometime it shifted to my wife's number(not sure why, even sprint can't explain why). Called had it changed back several months ago (it took 60 days for me) but was told then that you can check on any bill, it should always be the first number listed in the bill.

What will i deal with if i'm not the "premier" member, right now i show im eligible for a $75 discount... not $150. Can an entire family account be premier or is it only one particular line?

Only 1 line on a Family plan will get the 12 month "premier" upgrade

For what it's worth, here's an excerpt from the 'Terms and Conditions' for Sprint Premier...

SPRINT PREMIER UPGRADE:
Eligible customers with service on the same device for more than 12 consecutive months may be eligible for $150 instant savings with a renewed 2-year agreement. Valid only on the eligible Primary line with a 3 month consecutive average of $69.99 on a single line or $99.99 on a shared line. The upgrade fee is waived after a service credit that applies to the bill within 2 to 3 bill cycles of the upgrade."

I hope that's helpful.

Same happened to me. I got the Pre on release day and in Sept, I added my sister and brother and my brother ended up being the primary number. I called and had them switch to my number about a month ago so I should be good.

Off topic but does anyone know how to check your upgrade eligibility on the new Sprint site? I really don't like the new site at all.

appreciate the info guys...

charles87k, on the "my account" page where it lists your devices. If the particular device is eligible for upgrade there will be a green icon over the image of the phone, scrolling over it reveals if its a $75 upgrade or $150.

If you go to the site and go down to "Do Stuff" then go down to "Rebate Status" then that will take you to the "Rebate Status" screen, but on your left hand side you'll see 2nd down "Check Eligibility".. Hope that helps..

Hello: I found the BestBuy checker to be a very easy tool to look at your upgrade eligibility:

Upgrade Checker | Best Buy Mobile: everything mobile - every point of view :)

Unfortunately I found out the my second line is not eligible for upgrades annually like my line is so I guess my husband will have to wait to get his Evo...

Thanks, I found out I'm the one eligible :) (my parents love their blackberry anyway. They kick it old school for over a year more on the 8330).

Just to clarify, can you get the discount on both lines, if both lines are eligible? In my case, line 1 was eligible in 2007 and line 2 was eligible this month. So let's say we want to upgrade both lines to the EVO, do we both get the discount? As I recall, it worked that way last time we upgraded.

Each line is eligible no matter what after 22 months. However, only the primary line on a family plan is eligible for the 12 month upgrade for Sprint Premier customers.

You can also use another lines eligibility for upgrading. I do it all the time for people where the wife doesn't care what phone she has and is eligible so we use her line to upgrade and just swap the ESN of the phone to the husbands line. So if you have any $150 qualified line on the account you could still upgrade as long as the other person isn't looking to upgrade soon.

You can only swap the ESN after the rebate has processed (30 days), it's easier to go to Best Buy and have them activate it on the line you want from the beginning. There's no wait period to switch because there's no MIR to deal with.

I had the same thing happen to me. My phone number has always been the main number and my wife's number was the secondary. As long as you don't have any discounts applied you can call to have them change it back, but it resets it in the Sprint account for that date. You have to have them note it that your line is eligible on the year anniversary of when you got your phone. The other problem, which I had, is that I had multiple discounts on my account. I have been with Sprint 12 years and over the years they gave me certain discounts. They weren't able to put back these discounts if they changed my account back to my number being the main number. Something to do with the way there system now works. Trust me I had a 5% plus a 15% discount plus 20 dollar credit per month, mostly because of my length of time being with Sprint, my higher bill and most importantly all the screw ups the did to my account over the years. I asked them can they just consolidate my discounts and they told me they couldn't, but that is another story.

So because of the screw up with my account and that they couldn't change it back because I would lose all my discounts, I asked them if they could just note that my number would be eligible each year and my wife's number would be the 2 year, and they did do that for me. It is now notated in my account, and of course I check to make sure it is still there.

The moral of this story, is when you get new phones on your plan, make sure you and they know which is the main line.

I have three lines on my plan. I upgrade at different times so the eligibility dates are staggered. I just upgrade the line that allows and switch phones. Most of the phones you can activate online yourself otherwise you can chat and activate it that way. They base the eligibility on how long you have had the phone. I don't think it matters that it keeps switching lines but I could be wrong.
