For those who want the second GB update/patch

HTC Mobile Phone Support - DROID INCREDIBLE by HTC (Verizon) - Downloads

HTC has instructions that say if it fails, we should pull the battery out, stick it back in, and try again. I am trying that now.

Edit: BAH! It restarted and just downloaded again. I watched it download in About Phone -> System Updates, and it did the countdown to reboot (which failed - it's just sitting here) again. No go.

EDIT2: Yeah, Dan, you can call Verizon. It probably won't do any good at this point. I think the best they can do is send you a used phone to replace yours if yours is not functioning now. The update is to fix the issues caused by the last update - "Sprint" in the Market, "low memory" constantly popping up even though you have free memory, etc.

Just to add to the army of the annoyed... I have had the same issues. I got the big update around 9P the other night. While I didn't have many problems, I lost a few apps(not all though) on my SD card and just re-installed them as opposed to the unmount/mount. I have the 4.3 in. setting. Market wouldn't go to Apps at all, just hungup, so I never saw the Sprint tab. After a reboot yesterday when something crashed, I finally did see the Sprint tab.

Wanting the patch, I tried the *#*#CHECKIN#*#* trick and got prompted for another update. With over 500mb free memory and 6.33 gb free internal, after it went through everything, I got the not enough memory to install and could not get the update back via system update tab or CHECKIN trick again.

After seeing this, I tried the date trick. Same issues on year, in 2 seconds it switched back even with network time turned off. Tried the month trick, automatically began downloading the update in System Update. Got to 0, no reboot after about 10 mins sitting there, I tried the restart feature and it did not take the update... (but b/c I changed the Date forward a year, Swype immediately prompted me that I needed a new version and now the installer is not working!)

This is FUBAR to the letter. My phone works thankfully and I'm not getting the low memory issues clogging me up. I'm resigned to the fact I will have to wait until they re-release the patch, but will that be 2 months more waiting time to have them release the same failure from 2 months earlier?

My NE2 is up 12/29, if it's 2 more months for a patch, I'll have a GNex by then as HTC has left a bad taste in my mouth with updates during my DInc ownership...

NEVER another HTC for me. I have had"low memory" errors since day 1. 2 years to fix the issue is ENOUGH time......now THIS fiasco

since we are all here.. here's the main issue i'm having.. my email icon used to show me the total number of unread emails. Good. Now i hear it's only going to show me the total number of unread email since the last time i checked.. that's fine for me too.. Good even..

But i get NOTHING on the email icon on the home screen. I have it set to check for new email every 5 min. I just send myself a test email.. and NOTHING.. no email count on the icon.

So basically the email icon will not show me ANY number of unread emails period.. what's up with this?

BTW i'm on the phone with level 2 tech support (verizon) and THEY are calling HTC to see what's going on.. i'll keep you posted.. maybe i'll talk them into giving me a DINC2. Is the DINC2 email app the same? I am trying to find a screen shot of it.. if it's like the email app in the h1.. i will HATE it.. i like this email app.

I too am having the same issue -- I had gotten the 4.06 version of Gingerbread (big one) in August originally which has been OK. This morning wake up to see the 4.08 update (small, 8.7MB) ready to install, hit OK, then get the 'not enough space' error. Have tried a couple times during the day to force push 4.08 with the date tricks, stuck on no reboot each time. I'm not too upset b/c I could tolerate being on 4.06, but between VZW and HTC it just looks like amateur hour here. Big TY to everyone here for sharing infos. Stock non-rooted.

Same issues here as everyone else...Only downloads after changing date to 1 MONTH ahead, and then it stalls and never reboots. Argh!!!

Just went back and forth on Twitter with @VZWsupport for over an hour... after telling me a bunch of stuff I've already tried, they said:

"Okay. The only other thing that I can think of is factory reset> retry. Could you try to do that and let us know results?"

This is a pretty poor solution. I'm very displeased. Guess I'll give it a try tonight. Do you guys have a recommended app for backing up my data (games, photos, etc.)?

Same deal with verizon and htc support.. they have no idea what to do. just told me to clear out enough memory so when the update comes again i will have enough space.. (which of course i had PLENTY of space to begin with).. no help on the fact that forcing the update crashes the update..

They then end the call with "i guess you just have to wait for the update to come over the air again"....

Great.. so my email icon won't show me unread emails, and i don't have the lastest software.

How far does this have to go until verizon will consider this a defect and give us all a DINC2?

Ok the update that comes in when you go ahead a month is 4.08.605.2 ... i already have that.. HTC says the latest version is supposed to be 605.8 .. so this update that we are all manually forcing isn't the upgrade patch at all. it's just the upgrade to .2 again.

That's new. The update that was posted on Verizon Support page, the 8mb patch, was absolutely 4.08.605.2

The plot thickens...

For those with the low space....

I did the following:

UNISTALLED :
Adobe Flash - Unistalled the updates
Google Earth - Unistalled completely

CLEAR CACHE and DATA:
Facebook - Cleared both
Facebook for HTC Sense - Cleared both
Mail - Cleared both (you will have to reset up mail)

Once these were done, I had zero issue installing and all seems good.

Lego

Tried this, still no luck. Just going to format

My version after the big update is 4.06.605.3. The 8mb update is the one that takes you to 4.08.605.2. So if you're already there, then that's all she wrote. But not all of us are there yet.

I got 4.06 yesterday with no issues. Tried to install 4.08 this morning, and after the reboot I got the same memory error as everyone else, but it also lost about 20 of my apps. (looks like anything that was on the SD card) I tried unmount/remount and that didn't fix it. So I stopped by a VZW store on my way back to the office earlier, and the guy there told me I need to factory reset. I said that it was unacceptable that I have to go through that every time I install an update that you push to me. He wouldn't do anything else for me. Though he did try to sell me a Rezound (best of luck keeping me with HTC at this point).

I managed to get it to download the update (4.08) again, but like everyone mine won't reboot and install. Does anyone have the zip file for a manual flash? (for the 4.08)

how the hell did i get .8 then? I got the same not enough space as everyone else did.. maybe it installed anyways?

So i got .8 the latest version.. and my email icon isn't working.. what am i to do..

I will do a total system reset if anyone knows any app that can completely restore all my settings.. bring it right back to the way it is now..

I remember doing this one with "My backup pro".. and it brought all the apps back. problem is google market didn't seem to think i had them.. so it wouldn't tell me about updates.

Doesn't anyone know of the end all be all way to completely backup EVERYTHING.. reset the phone.. then get it all back to the way it was?

Yeah, this?

I want a backup even if I DON'T do a factory reset. My Blackberry let me back up EVERYTHING that wasn't an OS file using BlackBerry Desktop. I just tried the HTC Sync app, and it sucks. Almost all of the items you can sync are pics/documents in specific folders (that you have to find and specify), etc.. I don't even know where my apps store all my data files... and I sure don't want to have to specify all of them to try to back them up and then find out I missed half of them.

Is there a "backup all user data that will be lost with a factory reset" app?

The only one I can find that doesn't require root is MyBackup, and it gets mixed reviews (some of the 1-stars are scary - lost data, etc.):

Has anyone done the factory reset to see if it clears the way for the 4.08.605.2 to actually work? I'd hate to do the factory reset and still get low memory/stalled reboot/"insert other annoying issue here."

i did a factory reset and got the 2nd gingerbread update no problem I am running the new software but of course back on a factor reset phone, not even going to bother customizing hopefully in 2 weeks I will have a NEXUS in my hands

I got the update to download after clearing the data for several apps but like others it's stuck at waiting to reboot.
