Force app to stay in foreground in split screen?

Is there a way to force an app to stay active in the forground when in split screen? I generally have my banking app side by side with my register app to balance my checkbook and the banking app keeps basically going to a screen saver when I click in the register app. I'd like that to stop and haver it stay active and visible.

Have you tried banking app in pop up mode? May be that will work.
