Force Pixel to use Chrome when searching?

I found that when I do a Google search using the Google Assistant or Google Now it does not search using the Chrome browser. Instead it does the search in what appears to be a version of Chrome that lacks tab functionality. Is there a way to make all Google searches, regardless of where the search is performed, open the result in Chrome?

A work around is once on a webpage tap on the three dots in the top corner and select open in chrome

Dig through the settings for the search. I don't remember exactly where it is, but there is a setting to have it always open the results in your default browser.

It's in settings in the Google App, under Accounts & Privacy.
