Android Central Question

Hello!
Newb here.

Never used (or formatted) a microsd card before.
Brand new phone (Samsung Galaxy j7 Crown).
Have a (new) Samsung 128GB (U3) MicroSDXC Evo Select Memory Card I want to install.

Can/should I use exFat format? (I've read it allows +4gb files)
Will my phone accept it?
Will all other apps recognize exFat?

Welcome to Android Central.

Yes, you should format the card as exFAT. Windows will recognise it as well.

The card should be used for media storage (photos, videos, music) not for apps. Apps should be in the phone's internal storage.

All file types can be stored on all the format types.
The format types govern which operating systems can read/write them and how much data you can put on them.

Yes. Any file type can be saved to an Sd card formatted to any filesystem type.

ExFAT allows for individual file sizes of 4Gb and bigger. Most of the other format types do not. This is good if you have HD movies you want to save to your phone. They can be bigger than 4 Gb, sometimes more than 8 Gb depending on the compression rate/type.
