Former Blackberry User with Nexus 6P - several questions

Re: Not getting notifications for Gmail on Nexus 6P

I'm only getting Gmail notifications like once per day or when I manually open the app. Started in the last week or 2 I think. All of a sudden I will get a notification that has like 16 new emails in it. I used to get notifications for every email. I think I've seen someone else post about this but didn't really notice until a few days ago.
I'm gonna try the new Inbox app to see if it's any better

Re: iCloud email on gmail app?

might be easier just to forward icloud emails to your gmail account.

Profiles in Nexus?

I'm coming from BlackBerry where it was easy to switch to different profiles like vibrate, silent etc from quick settings. Is there an equivalent in marshmallow?

In fact there was an app in blackberry which worked beautifully on switching the profiles based on my location. As soon as I entered my office location it switched my phone into vibrate mode

I've tried some Android apps but they don't seem to work well.
Any recommendations?

This is really nuts. After all these years Android couldn't get this simple feature to work?? This works flawlessly on BlackBerry. My icloud emails get instantly pushed to my BlackBerry without any issues.

You can try the Outlook app. It supports Office 365, Outlook, Exchange, Yahoo, iCloud, Google and IMAP.

This phone didn't last long with me. Got a good offer and sold it on Kijiji within a day. Too big for me

So finally back to my BlackBerry leap - from leap to Priv to lumia 950 to BlackBerry Passport to nexus 6p and then back to leap!!

What a ride!! I guess I'm too addicted to bb10 OS...!!

Glad you got to where you want to be :)

Re: Not getting notifications for Gmail on Nexus 6P

I also miss the Hub and swipe gestures but everything else about BB10 is absolute trash to me.

Google Nexus 6P

Give it time. I was once a diehard BB Playbook defender years ago because I loved the hell out of the swipe UI but Android was a lot less mature back then compared to today (I think that was around the Gingerbread era version of Android?). You'll get over it like I did with use. BB10 devices just lack too much. If you're really fair with yourself you'll realize as I did that the swipe gestures weren't really any quicker than the Android navigation buttons (although a little more fun in a Tony Stark kinda way much like WebOS was back in the day).

Off topic but I'm also hearing rumors that Apple intends to grow from 3D touch to make that replace their physical home button as a way to navigate iOS eventually. Not a fan myself. I find navigation buttons far more efficient than relying on press+hold to move around the UI

I switched to Nexus 6P from BB Q10 recently.

Also missing the Hub and its functionality, but not that much. Email client is uber important to me too, and after some research, installing, test drives and what-not I chose Microsoft Outlook. It handles Gmail and IMAP nicely. Calendar doesn't integrate well to Google services, but it's not that problematic for me.
I love the tab in which the app stores all attachments sorted by the account.

I don't have much experience with Exchange but since it's MS product I doubt it would be left behind in their email client app.

Try Tasker. It's a giant automation machine. You can have profiles based on parameters like location, time and so on. Really worth the couple bucks they charge for it. Honestly I wouldn't mind paying $19.99 for it.

Not sure how much it is now but i picked it up for $2 a few years ago

On outlook app does anybody know how to change the heads up notification to exclude delete instead of archive?

As the title says, I've an opportunity to trade my beloved BlackBerry Passport Silver Edition for the nexus 5x. While I love the passport and bb10 OS, I'm concerned about the longevity of BB10. No one knows how long it'll be supported. It might be on its last leg.

I don't particularly like android - had the galaxy s3 when it came out and then switched to bb10. Bought the BlackBerry Priv and returned it coz of android. But with the vanilla android on nexus 5x I'm considering it.

My main requirement is a stable and fully functional email client like the one BlackBerry has. Does the Gmail client on nexus 5x support exchange email account in addition to the Gmail?

How's the battery life??

Any comments for a BlackBerry user who's considering a move to android??

Get blackberry priv. It is closest to blackberry and you do not give up keyboard. It is really good phone.

I'd say that's a Dropbox app issue. Anyways, my personal belief is attachments are so archaic these days, I'd rather send links to my files or folders in Dropbox than sending attachments.

I shorten the links with bit.ly and as a bonus get metrics on how many recipients actually access the files.

Tasker is great, but it's too complex for some members of my family. For them I recommend llama. It works well and it's simple to setup.
