Former iPhone users, how is the Note 9?

I was a longtime apple user. Was apple from the 3g until recently. The note 9 is in a different league to be honest. Sure they are both phones..but the differnce is vast from my experience. Key ones I like are -

The screen - Samsung know how to do a screen and the notes is brilliant
The pen - I don't use it as much as I could or should but the screen off memo feature is awesome.
The speed - this thing is fast especially when multitasking which even running several apps is so smooth.
Email groups - for me this is a big thing. The stock mail app handles group emails so well! Can even save a group from an email! Brilliant.
The build - this thing is so sleek and well made! It takes me back to the says of the iPhone 5 when I looked at it and thought this is art! This phone has that feel and quality, iPhones have lost that now.

Been using my note 9 since launch date last August. As of now no lag. I came from a line of iPhones as well. Overall I like my experience so far but once in a while there might be small little glitches here and there that a restart will most likely fix

There are many pros and cons, and a lot depends on whether you use a MacBook or a PC, and how many other iOS devices you have. The iPhone's biggest strengths are in small areas related to the echosystem, like automatic WiFi password sharing with any nearby devices you have.

For example, if you're at a hotel and you sign into the public WiFi using a password on one Apple device, when you connect on any other Apple device, you'll automatically be prompted on the first device to share the password other devices of yours.

Another example is being able to receive text messages seamlessly and take calls seamlessly on your Mac without even taking your iPhone out of your pocket.

Finally, apps for the iPhone are just a bit better quality. LastPass doesn't crash as often or at all on iOS, but does on Android as an example.

On the other hand, the Note is leaps ahead feature wise. Small things like being able to arrange icons on the bottom of a large screen instead of being forced to align them vertically. One UI makes using the Note really easy one handed, and the one handed mode on triple click of the home button is way better than swiping down to temporarily bring the top of the iPhone screen lower.

Then there's the S-Pen. The overall feel of the phone in use feels higher quality to me than the iPhone XS Max. The flexibility is fantastic. Dual apps, and in general how much better Android is at keeping apps in memory.

One of the things that convinced to switch back is for example that when you use an app like Zoom or GoToMeeting with phone, you have to keep switching back to it to keep it alive on the iPhone. If I'm on a work conference call while driving, I don't want to be switching back and forth between Waze and GTM.

Honestly, I don't notice any lag on the phone at all. It seems completely smooth to me. I multitask a fair bit as well running a few apps and no issues at all. This phone feels like a beast and steams through everything.

I had a 7 plus as my last iPhone device. Still have an ipad but barely use it. I missed imessages but then when I discovered that Android Messages shows up in your internet browser, I was hooked. My friends that I group convo with (they have iPhones) I talk to them on Facebook Messenger, in which they thank me for saving space on their phones.

I don't have any strong dislikes of switching back to Android. One thing I was worried about was lag and all the stigma that Android carries, but it hasn't slowed down yet in the few months that I've had it.

To add, I wasn't that deep into the Apple ecosystem minus iMessages. I didn't have an Apple Watch (received a Ticwatch when I had my 7, but couldn't send messages from it), didn't have Apple TV, just used Apple pay. And I don't really miss it either.

Sounds like my experience. iMessages is the only thing I missed, then like you I found the web interface. I don't regret switching at all, and the options of things to do with the phone is unparalleled.
The Note is just a different beast from the iPhone. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. I tried to go back to an iPhone, but just couldn't handle how limited iOS is.
