Entering the ##786# code in my dialer doesnt seem to do anything...other dialer codes like the one for LED test work though, so idk why its not automatically taking me to a Reset menu after entering the code....
Im on the latest midNight ROM, any suggestions??

I hope this is posted in the right area - my question is on a gps bug - from what I read and this is from my experience, that 30 meter/98.4 foot accuracy is always the same because it is hard coded. So you can be spot on or not and it will always state the same hard coded accuracy.

My gps works perfectly and is easily more accurate than what it says on the screen that I am within the 98.4 foot circle - there have been times when I test it and I am within 10-15ft of where I am standing just like my portable Garmin nuvi's which I have two of. I also have 3 different cars that I own and they all have factory gps systems in it and my epic seems about the same as my "5" other gps systems.

With that being said, is it possible to strip out the hard coded programming of any of the 2.2 roms out there and somehow embed or just update/flash the hard coded part into my stock 2.1 rom? The reason I ask, is that my epic works perfectly in every way, and I have great battery life in the way I use it with my stock rom. For the minor problems and/or advantages that might come with whatever 2.2 brings does not seem worth the headache in my case.

Bottom line, I am perfectly happy with my stock "rooted only" 2.1, it's just that it would be nice to get rid of that hard coded glitch.

Thanks!

I won't say that its impossible but I'm sure no developer is going to try and spend time required to port something from Froyo back to Eclair. Ports from Eclair up to Froyo have happened time and time again but taking a step backwards in time I think is a harder problem to overcome because of Froyo "adding" newer coding that might not be present in Eclair to support such ports.

Anyone else have anything to add?

Paul627g,

One more question to the gps problem (or lack of in my case as I have no problems) - when others state that the custom 2.2 roms fix or improve their gps problems, are they stating that the hard coded 30 meter/98.4 foot correction is made so that the gps reads correctly or are they stating that it is more accurate? Because compared to my 5 other gps systems, I would say my epic is very close!

My gps in my two different moments and two different epics that I have owned have been perfect in "real world" accuracy, its just that with 2.1 they had the hard coded glitch that the Samsung programmers left in there.

so i finally decided to run procedure 4. from what i read it was supposed to send your phone back to stock dk28. this wasnt the case for me. it just reset me to stock midnight rom which is what i was running before i did procedure 4. i thought it was weird when i saw the custom boot animation so a ran a quadrant test and sure enough i got a score of 1759. and my gps now locks to 4 meters instead of 2000 meters haha.

i would say procedure 4 is successful and easy.

In my case on Eclair it would always lock at 30 meters and usually be putting my location as my neighbors house which would translate to about 50-100 ft away possibly more depending on which neighbor it locked me in at.

Then once I went to leaked Froyo it improved to 10 meters on average and locked me in at my address (house). Afterwards any custom Froyo roms lock me at about 2-3 meters and always dead on at my house location (address)

So I would say it is improving both ends of the spectrum. I'm getting a dead on present location lock example my house instead of a location nearby and then the distance in relationship to the actual lock has dropped from 30 meters to 10 or less meters.

Hope all this makes sense, bottom line it is improving both actual lock and measured distance from the lock.

#4 all the way!!!! I tried 3 cause it seemed easy but it didn't work for me. All the efforts are well worth a working GPS, I love my GPS almost as much as I love running on 2.2 :-)

hey im using midnight rom v3.2 and my gps was not getting locked. tried the 4th method and now im at the boot up screen with the green android logo.... plzz can anyone help...

Try one of two methods.

Pull the battery and restart the phone

or

press and hold volume up+camera+power button to do a soft reset (saves pulling the battery)

Reboot and try again... Hopefully you made a NanDroid backup before you started this process to restore if something went wrong otherwise you may have to reflash the midNIGHT rom.

didnt do a nandroid backup, so i guess i will have to reflash the rom. by the way what might have happened. and once i reflash it what sould i do to get the gps fixed?

@gowindan, you could try step #3 in or do a backup this time around and try #4 again...

#4 has a good success rate of fixing judging from the responses on here.

i guess im seriously screwed up now. i reflashed the midnight 3.2 rom again. i flashed and didnt do an auto reboot. now when i try to reboot the system, my power key is not working. so im not able to reboot my phone now.

@Paul627 i have already tried the 3rd method and it was not working for me. now i guess im in even more trouble. plzz help.....

Wow I really wish I knew ahead of time how bad of an idea choice #4 was. Cant access CWM3 to restore even.

Tried #3, no luck, but #4 worked great.
This is my first time on this site. I had no idea anything like this existed. It's great!

Thanks
