Fragile Charging Port Cover

Positioning your phone while charging is the best way for this to 'fall off and/or break'.
(EX: Charging phone in car, setting phone under your leg, and keeping it there. At this point your 'flap' is being constantly pressured from your car and your leg. Little things like this will cause wear and tear.
That is the most common way people break these even when they think it wasn't their fault.

Unless you drive like a total maniac, it should be fine. I use a friction pad all the time on my passenger seat all the time, and take sharp turns all the time. My pad and/or phone has never slid off even once

I don't think any friction pad will resolve the problem of the phone sliding off the case when the vehicle swerves in a turn.

My idea is to build a small open top wooden box with the sides just high enough to hold the pad and phone.

The box sides will prevent inadvertent slides of the phone off the pad.

A crutch, but it works.

an alternative would be to use Velcro to hold it in place, or just a wide rubber band around the two of them. Lay the combo package in the center console tray.

.

Where'd you come up with that? I've been following all the broken charging flap threads and not even once it was mentioned someone broke theirs in the car

It is quite simple to remove the old pretty covet add they is a lithe casing that holds it on place. This casing is held in by a single screw. Take the back cover off your phone and you'll see it.

Samsung for charge me $85 to fix that cover. Did try to act like did not know of the issue of the USB cover breaking so easily I told him the issue is all over the internet. Told me to take it back to att and use my insurance on the phone to fix it. there is a 200 dollar deductible. I am so over it

At least someone is providing a replacement.

The choice is there, take it or leave it. I just offered up the option.

Yes, it is over priced, but.... look at the delivery chain to get that into their inventory. maybe not so bad after all, it will not be a high volume item.

I've had my phone for 7 days and the charging port cover completely snapped off, called verizon and was on hold for two hours just for them to say it was all my fault. The woman also tried to say that the galaxy s5 wasn't water proof. Then I went to the store and they would not replace my phone and considering that I'm still under the 14 day trial I figured I would have gotten it replaced but sadly I didn't all they did for me was write a note on my account saying that it broke off and if there ever becomes water damage then I can get a replacement. Which will probably be another huge process. Then I called samsung and they said it would cost me 70 dollars for them to repair it for me and that I would be out a phone for a month or so.

Do not believe them about the notated account! They will still deny you and claim its not waterproof so you're at fault.

I feel like mine is loose at the moment, and doesn't feel like it fits 100% inside anymore. Do you guys have a suggestion on what to do?

Don't beleive them! I can't tell you how many times a company has told me they're going to "note to my acct" some vital information and guess what, it's not there (or they say it isn't) when I need to call back. Corporate America is guilty of either hiring morons or it's all part of the plan to make us think they're morons so they can get by with less than honest and fair business practices. It's a good thing I don't work because it's a full time job making them do the right thing. EOR (end of rant)

You can always call in again to verify the note

Hopefully I had a lemon, but yesterday, went I went to charge my Galaxy S5, carefully opening the port like always....it simply came off...a clean break. No force was applied or anything. Lucky, it was apparent to the AT&T store, and they swapped out my phone without any problems (well...the third store I visited did). I was ready to switch back to my iphone 5s...but lucky they swapped it out. It was apparent that it was a fault in the device and not from applied torque.

Anyway, they stated that I was the first person they had seen with this problem. Lets hope that this is the case, as I would hate for this to be the norm. I know some people hate the charging port...but if it makes it water proof (resistant), I am not going to complain.

Anyway, be careful with those ports.

Good to know that they swapped it out for you without giving you too much trouble. I am pretty cautious about opening the charging port as I don't want there to be any play or it become lose or even scarier break off! That would totally ruin the water resistance of the phone.

I am posting all over the samsung facebook page. I see that i am not the first one. Everyone should post on that page.make samsung hear us. It is a replaceable part that could be sent to us

Everyone needs to respond on the SAMSUNG facebook page. This is a great way to get their attention

The cover broke on my S5 after 2 weeks.

I'm living in Germany and sent the phone to Samsungs local repair center. They fixed it under warranty for free. That means they accepted it as a faulty part.

I will, because charging ports in general seem to be prone to wear and tear with the constant plugging and unplugging of the port. My issue is in the past the wireless charging covers in the past have made the phone thicker and made it so I can't use certain cases anymore.

You can buy a slim card that attaches to 2 contacts in the back of the phone next to the battery. I use this and it doesn't make my phone any bigger (noticeably) and i can still use my otterbox case. I can charge wireless and not have to worry so much about my port breaking.

Either way you're most likely giving up water resistance so why not save the money and just remove the port cover? I'm considering this since the OEM Qi cover doesn't fit with any cases I've tried.
