Franco's Kernel APP

I'm liking it so far. No huge noticeable difference. At least nothing glaring

Same here - looks to be as speedy and consistent as 181, and with as-good-or-better battry life. Moderate use for about 6 hours and I'm at 78%. Brightness at 50-60%

Ok I was wondering if anyone else is having issues at all like this.

I am having issues with my Droid and not sure what is going on and what the problems are.

I do not know how to yet to troubleshoot and diagnose the phone yet so if you know please let me know as well.

The apps do not respond when I select them and it is not just one. I have been clicking on Market, Barcode Scanner, ASTRO, Calendar, Settings and nothing will open up at all. They just get highlighted and that is it. After awhile the apps will just open or if I taskill everything they will open up.

So I am not sure what the issue is at all but this is not the first time it has happened. Am I running out of resources, memory or what? Just dont know what is causing this issue at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

More overclock love

Hey just downloaded tonight's r192 and. Noticed the sweet over clock, my question is it safe to juice our phones that high? I know it will be an issue when it comes to battery life, but just wanna know if it is safe.

I have been flashing the CM9 nightlies, really been enjoying that on my CDMA Verizon Nexus (ruunin CM9 0621 build..now thinking it's time to start kernel flashing. I have purchased the Franco.Kernel updater app. I have a few questions that I can't find the answer to. Thanks in advance, for any help!

1. When flashing CM9 or any rom for that matter, will that automatically overwrite the existing installed kernel (say if Franco was installed)?
2. is there a way or reason to backup an existing kernel, before upgrading?
3. Milestone 4 or r192 ? :) loaded question huh!
4. Are there compatibility concerns between roms and kernels, or as long as you are on a 4.04 rom build, running a kernel made for your phone, your good?
5. Thoughts on CM9 and Franco builds?
6. 384 or 512? Not sure what that impacts?

I was trying to find a FAQ for the Franco App/kernels, URLs?

Thanks again for any guidance, links!

It's conceivable it could do some damage long term, but at the same time who knows? I just say play it safe and if you even need to over clock, the 1344 step should be just fine.

1. Every Rom comes with a Kernel the devs like, you are free to change it out for whatever you prefer, but yes when you first flash flash the ROM it will give you its kernel.
2. No, you can always download and flash it on your own. "backing up" in the traditional sense isn't needed.
3. Lol yes loaded question. I flash all the "nightlies" along with most people and they are almost always just fine. A recent one caused some battery drain but was fixed within a few days. And if you don't like it its easy to flash something else anyways.
4. The way you said it is pretty much accurate. As long as it's for your phone and version of android you are fine. I hear CM strongly recommends only using their kernels but I don't personally believe it's necessary. Someone else can shed more light on that if they know better.
5. See (4) lol.
6. It's the GPU over clock speed. I very much recommend just staying with the 384. Some phones won't even boot with the 512, and it's unconfirmed if running it will cause long term damage anyways, plus the difference in speed is something you'd probably never notice anyway in daily usage.

Finally, every phone is different, all silicon isn't created equal, so while some people rave about one kernel, you might have different results, or your phone might do better with different settings than someone else's. Don't be surprised or frustrated if someone's recommendations don't seem to give you the same results. Experiment and have fun :)

Flashed and installed 192...sheesh he is quick at releases.

Won't be using the overclock anytime soon, but at least I flashed, unplugged, showered/got ready/went to work, and then checked my CPU Spy and it had 90+% of dead sleep. Always a good sign that it's probably going to be a good Kernel.

Thanks 2defmouze! I appreciate the answers!

I have flashed r192/384, with CM 0622 and placebo or not, sure seems to be good on battery, deep sleep and performance in my short 6 hours of testing. Still playing with settings, using Wheatley and just a one tick up on max cpu speed.

Will monitor over the weekend . Thanks again!

The Wheatly gov is boss.

I believe the upper limit of our CPU is 1.65...so I wouldn't go there/further than there for a long period of time. I like to stay at 1344 normally, but I'll throw on something higher for S and G's. I did run 1536 for a few days in the row, but the most taxing thing I do on my phone is Google Plus lol.

Can someone please explain the Franco Power Modes to me?

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

I 2nd this, and I get when and how to use them. But what exactly do they do. I have Power Save mode on right now, but what does it do? I assume it turns off one CPU when the screen is off but other than that I'm not sure. Every time I turn my phone on 4G is still running, so I don't think it kills data. Maybe it lowers the CPU speeds as well. It'd just be nice to know exactly what the Power Modes are changing in your settings.
