Free SMS app for Galaxy S3?

I like ChompSMS over Handcent personally. IMO it looks cleaner, performs slightly better. Again, personal opinion but when compared to stock either are a HUGE improvement.

give go sms pro a try, I used to use handcent exclusively until it acted whack when I rooted my epic touch, I then started using go sms pro, such a nice app

Am I missing something here.. there is nothing free about sending SMS with this app. I have a pay as you go SIM card and it deducts the regular rate for my outgoing texts.
Is there such a thing as free SMS on an Android?
I used Pinger (or textfree) when I had my iPhone. It was free all the time anywhere in the world. I could be on 3G or wifi and it worked.

Handcent here too! Nice but my contacts don't have their pictures. Could be the theme I'm using but I'm not sure.

Handcent says this due to recent changes Facebook has made to how third parties can access your data. They are hoping to get it working again in a future update, but are suggesting the use of something like Haxsync or Friend Sync in the meantime.

Ya the entire Go line of products is great. The launcher, calendar and themes are all great. Go SMS is one app I can't live without.

The free part is when you use the chat feature. In Go SMS you can chat for free with anyone using the same app. Similar to Facebook messenger and What's app.

I've been using Handcent for about 2 years now. I tried it because at the time, I had an OG HTC EVO 4G and hated the blandness of the stock messaging app. I liked how Handcent allowed you to customize the colors of the coversation thread and choose a few different styles (bubbles, inline, etc.). While the stock messaging app on the GS3 is much nicer than what came with my old EVO, I hate the "bubbles" lack of any way to do away with that conversation style. I installed and restored my Handcent settings via TiBackup. At this point, I'm just so used to using it that I'd rather not use anything else.

Handcent functions just like your stock messaging program. It uses your current phone number but with many more customization features. One of my favorite programs.

2 places to add contact pictures:
1) In Conversational List Settings/Display contact pictures
2) In Bubble Settings/Display contact pictures

There is nothing this program won't do. It even allows you to change your system device ringtones and default notifications to any song from your entire musice collection.

I use gosms. I believe it is the most customizable of them all.

Yeah I know. I have all that set up. It doesn't show contacts that have pictures from Facebook only contacts you actually assigned a picture to. No big deal though.

Big deal though: EMOJIS STOPPED WORKING. killing me as everyone I know has an iPhone and uses emojis

I was using gosms and then switched to handcent bc I used to use it on my droid incredible and loved it. But now when I use it it doesn't notify me when I get a text. all other notifications r turned off and when I go into handcent settings I can test my notification and everything works fine. But when I get a text nothing happens...if I restart my phone it will notify me maybe 2 times, but when it does I get the text twice...I love gosms but I really just want to use handcent for a while...anyone know how to fix this?
