Fried power button?

I took my phone camping this weekend and the lack of signal killed the battery faster than I've ever seen it before, and the lack of available power sources forced me to rely on a friends inverter in his car. I plugged it in for a bit with the stock AC adapter, but nothing happened for a while. The amber charging light did not go on and the phone would not start. Eventually, it did turn on, and when it loaded, the phone was exhibiting symptoms of being attached to a power supply that is too powerful, that is very sluggish response time from the UI. I unplugged the phone and it showed a 40% charge from just a few minutes, but that quickly dropped to about 10%, furthering my suspicion that the power was too strong. I also found that the power button didn't work, and that the phone now turns itself on as soon as I put the battery in, which I do not recall every happening before. I've tried a few things to possibly fix it, but nothing worked. I'm thinking I'm going to have to take it in, but I want to avoid that since I'm rooted and have a custom ROM installed.

Does anyone else have a similar experience or any possible fixes?

You probably fried the battery, got a backup to try? or know a friend who has one you can test out?

I do have friends with the phone, so I can try that, but the battery seems to be functioning normally after charging it at home. It did seem to sit at 99% for a long time when I first charged it, but that's not too out of character, and now it doesn't hold there as long a day after..
