That is what I needed to know. Thanks for your help.It shouldn't because that file was the official update from Sprint and you're running the same version as everyone else (DI18).
Now this version of Froyo that everyone is playing with is NOT the official release so if you use it, you might not get future OTA updates. EVO users had that issue when Froyo came out for them (a lot used an unofficial release that worked good enough, but wasn't the official version so they didn't get OTA updates until they flashed the official release on their phones).
Wait, are you serious? At the very best I have gotten 12 hours out of my stock Epic. How in the world were you using the phone to get that kind of battery life?I am wondering if you all have a similar issue.
My battery used to last about 26 hours with 2.1.
I installed Froyo last night, and now my battery lasts 6 hours.
Nothing was changed.
DRM is off, Download Manager is off, no 4G, no GPS.
This is bad.
Everyone using this download of v DK28 should be aware that it is not an official release by Sprint. (Despite much misinformation on various forums.)
The Sprint admin on the carrier's own user forum, in repeated posts yesterday playing whackamole to correct various users excited about this, denied that there has been an official release.
This version is a leaked build developed by Sprint, but it is not supported for general release. And anyone who installs the unoffical leak will have to undergo complicated recovery steps before they can get the real update whenever it is released OTA.
AFAIK that would work.So flashing back to 2.1 stock via Odin and getting the update wouldn't work?
OK, I'm a newby and this is my first attempt at updating a "leaked" OS on Android. I have worked w/leaked OS's on BB so I am familiar w/the process. I am downloading and - so far so good.
Is there any anyway to go back to 2.1 if I don't like it? meaning I'd prefer to wait until the official release of 2.2.
Does anyone know if I will get the prompt to update to the "official" 2.2 being that I have a "leaked" version?
TIA
My update was simple. No big issues. Touchwiz is a litle slow. I hope we have an upgrade path when the official release is done!! Loving Froyo!!
PROBLEM: I installed and renamed the .zip file onto my SD card. created a folder called "Root" did the recovery steps & got an error/fail message noting that it was unable to find the file - update.zip. What did I do wrong.
I'm on Firmware 2.1-update1
Build#: SPH-D700 Eclair.DI18
Kernel: 2.6.29
Should I be using the directions for Alternate Instructions?
How To: Update Sprint Epic 4G to Android 2.2 - BriefMobile
Should I remove the file from the "Root" folder and leave it in the folder?
What...that update was a ruse to hack your phone and steal your ****..how did you miss this!!!
I just successfully updated my phone to the new Android OS 2.2 but after rebooting, my phone is going crazy. It is selecting things, changing screens, trying to call my contacts, etc! WTF?
What are you talking about? I updated from the link of the OP.
Sounds like a bad installation. Try doing a factory reset/wipe and reinstall Froyo.
So I have seen it posted both ways:
OTA update will not work after installing FroYo
vs
OTA update will work after installing FroYo, because the build numbers will be close.
I want to upgrade to FroYo, but I want to be able to get the "official" OTA update when it comes out, and Gingerbread, Honeycomb, etc.
The only thing holding me back is the OTA issue, I have not hacked around much on Android. I want to be able to make sure that I can recover my phone back to OEM if things go wrong (out of the box condition).
My device is not rooted, don't really plan on rooting it. Pretty happy with how it functions now.
