Froyo DK28 is out for EPIC

Today, I find the following issues:

I don't have any of those issues.. What method did you update? I renamed to update.zip and loaded that from my sd card at the boot menu and all is fine.. GPS.. Everything...

My only gripe is the super slow gallery and the ugly childish bright blue and yellow messaging app..

Oh and I could not shut off or snooze the alarm this morning... which might be a good thing....

Are you guys freakin' insane? install an unsupported update now many of your phones are f-ed up. How do you know some hacker didn't put this build together and now any activity involving sensitive data is being send out to undisclosed party..

crazy for just froyo.. g' luck with your phone

I believe I went the Odin route.......there's so many methods, I'm not 100% that I know exactly which one.....

you mean besides the fact that it was pushed by SPRINT OTA to dev units and that it was on GOOGLE SERVERS??
I downloaded from http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/sprint_samsung_d700/1506bdf2e04b.update-SPH-D700_DI18ToDK28.zip

so i manually updated to 2.2.1 and i understand there will be no ota for the official release. once i get the official release manually, will ota be fine when its time to get gingerbread?

Ok I skimmed through the post but didn't notice anyone got this. In the app drawer if you hit menu it gives the option to view in list and edit. When you hit the edit buttn all the icons move and add - signs on them except for stock apps. You can hold and drag to rearrange them and replace 3 of the main buttons home key is the only one that is permanent. Love the 2.2 update its like having a new phone to play with.

As for issues I had some lag after update I reset twice (not factory wipe )and phone is working fine so far.

GPS doesn't work, audio doesn't work, UI redraws slow.. ha good luck beta testing.

This will be your only warning - DO NOT troll in this thread.

No OTA updates if you installed DK28. You will be able to install Gingerbread the same way you installed Froyo - probably before anyone gets an OTA update.

I love that feature! Finally we get a complete version of TouchWiz :)

Psh, us Fascinate owners have had that forever. Silly Epic...:P

That's funny I had the same issue with the alarm this morning.

It's crazy to hear about all of the different experiences with this update.

The Evo already has an official version of Froyo. If you have questions about updating your phone it would be best to ask the experts over at the Evo forum - I admittedly don't know much about that phone.

so far so good with 2.2. Three things that I noticed are:
1) No GPS response. I repeat No GPS. I tried the *#142365# & nothing. any recommendations???
2) The "Alarm Clock" is now labeled "Clock." Well I failed to double check this after updating and my daily alarms were erased. I noticed this after waking up late this morning. :(
3) Qik was finally working (fingers crossed) :D. I had MAJOR problems w/Qik working on 2.1 (i.e., it rarely connected).

Other than that - It's pretty good. I haven't tried the music player, but will test today. If GPS is the only issue, I think that I will keep 2.2 until the official release.

**UPDATE**
GPS Issue:
+1 for Google Maps - although it hasn't locked on my location, it can give me directions from my location
-1 for Navigation - It can't get past the location triangulation pop up. I switch to the traffic view and keep getting "Searching for GPS." In the Traffic View, I was able to get a triangulation, but no GPS lock. Triangulation was good.
+1 SprintNav - it's slow, but the Maps/Route (i.e., traffic) is ok
+1 Poynt - pretty good. I searched nearby for gas stations & resturants and got a pretty good triangulation
Music Player:
+1 TuneIn Music Player - sounds just as good as 2.1
-1 for Stock Music Player - I don't know if it's my setteings, but it sounds echo-ey, & not enough base (I check my EQ settings)

-1 on the battery life - As others have stated, the battery does in fact drain faster than 2.1.

Repeat GPS problems, email is slow, ThinkFree Office is broke, stated error when loading. Tried DocsToGo, but need to buy $15 program to open pdf files that loaded under old free ThinkFree Office.

So going on vacation, GPS Navigation programs won't work, and can't read business emails while traveling.

Thinking about trying to figure out how to revert to 2.1. These are things I need.
Most programs are zippier, nice to rearrange dock, but not worth what I lost. And it took me a day to get here . . .

Touchwiz seems sluggish in transition from landscape to portrait and vis versa in the leaked Froyo build. Touchwiz also redraws slowly when coming back from applications. Has anybody else seen this?

I've noticed this as well. Loading applications seem fine but the transitioning from screen to scree on menu navigation seems to have a lag. Also has anyone else noticed the difference in spelling of "Favorites"

From the Homes screen go to Phone > Favorties on TouchWiz. The title bar is spelled "Favourties".

I have yet to try the GPS and will report my findings later.

I've also noticed that I lost the option to sort my Logs by "All Calls". It now shows - All Logs, Dialed Calls, Received Calls, Missed Calls, Sent Messages and Incoming Messages. I preferred the All Calls setting.

Oh yeah, battery is draining like the original Epic problem.

I have used 20% in 2 hours - 10 minutes on calls, a few text and checked email - normal usage for me.

No changes in settings that I can tell - have done airplane toggle, closed again DRM (hoped that would go away), Google keeps opening things I never saw before. Cell standby is good, time without service is good. Battery is just not the way it was.

So I've been running this for the past 2 days and I havent had a single issue. I've read the reports about the audio issues, gps issues and lag but I'm not experiencing any of that. This release is extrememly solid for me and I'm beyond pleased to have it.

That being said, is there really any real reason to update to the "official" when it comes out? It just seems like its going to be more work than I want to put forth seeing as how the current version I'm running is working perfectly.
