Droid 2.2 Update

Moto won't commit to a date until they know they will have it ready. Plus any final release has to be blessed by both Moto and VZW. They will announce it when they have it ready to push and it will be released to us shortly after

They throw that up when they are going to roll it out soon :)

What worries me is that they're having so much trouble pushing an update that really, isn't new by any means. Froyo is 4 months old. Sure it is only 4 months old on ONE phone (N1) but the fact that they are having such problems with THIS phone, OUR phone, it worries me for future updates.

I'm beginning to doubt we'll ever get Gingerbread.

No offense, but this starting to sound like a blackberry forum with all the pessimism over the arrival of 2.2.
Don't worry, it will be here soon and you'll all forget about this waiting period. It's kinda like my kids complaining about the arrival of Christmas. MY 6 year old always says "It'll take FOREVER" uuuum not really...

Is it recommended or makes any difference if you first made factory reset then installed Froyo than having it installed on your current setup?

Re: Froyo Update Waiting Room

Frankly, after having a BB, this wait is hardly that long. I like my Droid X as it is and if Froyo makes it better, great. For right now, though, I have no complaints.

LOL..... I waited with Blackberry's two flagship devices... Storm 1 and the Storm2...... never saw the love or good things that came from waiting.

Thank god the X blows the pants off the BB just running 2.1, but I do feel a little let down for yet another flagship that seems to have it's update issues.

I surely agree with this. With BBs on Verizon, it was always waiting, waiting for "THE Update" (OS6)... and nothing. Silence. When it did arrive, surprise, it's not for the S2 - a supposed flagship device.

Extremely frustrating to be in the same boat again, having spent $200 to get there. If only we could get SOME information from Moto and/or Verizon; some recognition that DX was promised something at the get-go. What's happening? Why the delay? When can an update be expected? Why did all the other devices get it first?

Not one official word. Not even a whimper of an acknowledgement that we are waiting...

Yes, but at least you know when Christmas is coming. If they told me Froyo was coming on December 25th then at least it would be something.

With the DX scheduled to hit end of life in March of 2011 it doesn't look good for Gingerbread.

I have to disagree. Gingerbread is going to be announced in another month or two. The DX will be further away from EoL than the original Droid was relative to Froyo, and it still got Froyo. I'm sure the X will no longer be the flagship by then, but it's not going to lose all development support just because VZW plans to clear out the inventory within 5-6 months of Gingerbread.

Next week is autumn where's Froyo?

So moto/vzw promised froyo by late summer. You cannot get any more late summer then the first day of autumn.

I've been patient but to be honest, its not like moto hasn't had the source code for a short period of time. Google released froyo a while ago and they also presumably had access to the beta as well.

I have a question about when this update comes out, I'm new to android and wondered when its released how do you install it? Are the updates OTA?

If you are not in roam it will be ota. If you are in roam fire up the wifi go to menu>Settings>About Phone> Check for updates.

I am sure there will be links on here for download as well.

I know im getting a little ticked off about whatever the delay on this is. Not even a hint of when its coming. Older devices got it and newer devices got it....but they can't figure out the bug on the X? Seriously? Instinct told me to get the incredible... .wish i did.

I have not seen anywhere other than here that monday is the day. Is that just a hopeful wish

Someone (who has been around a while, not that that means anything) claimed it was Monday at the latest. Also, you gotta figure if VZW is going to make the "late summer" timeframe, Monday is the time.
