I tried launcher pro.... it had issues with 2.1 and some key widgets so I got a refund. However, my point is, I (we) shouldnt have to purchase an App that Froyo has promised to do for us for free.

I don't think Froyo was ever going to bring the pinch-to-zoom Homescreen view. That's a Sense UI thing...and LP copied it.

This. and LPP adds SO MUCH to the interface experience, it's a staple no matter what OS i'm running.

Tried that in another thread in this forum, but nobody was particularly interested in even talking about such a possibility.

Here's one more take (a pure guess on my part, and what do I know???) on what's going on, particularly if it involves exchange servers...

The major competition for the X is the iPhone4 and BlackBerry with OS6. I've never worked with an iPhone4, so can't speak to where the X is in that competition. However, the X far outshines BB. Judging from what I've read lately, this has been noticed in the EXTREMELY lucrative business and government/military worlds. IF the X can compete head-to-head on security issues, it could be game over for both the iPhone4 and BlackBerry.

The fact that the X is still on backorder six weeks later is very telling.

I'm using Launcher Pro right now, and I'm not really having any issues with it. ADW also does the pinch to zoom thing, which was never promised with Froyo so far as I know. I've got them both on my phone and I haven't paid for either of them.

OMG! You CAN pinch to zoom and get all the home screens with LP+. I've been using it (and lovin' it) for a while now and never realized! What a bonus! AND, the home screen rotates!! After trying to get it to do that with the stock launcher - and giving up - I didn't even think to try.

PS - The Contact Shortcut widget is the one thing I really miss with LP+ and, I have to say, pretty much the only thing. The advantages and flexibility of that app are so tremendous that I can live without it ... who knows, maybe that's one more thing 2.2 might "cure."

Launcher Pro looks great, but the People Widget doesnt work. With Launcher Pro free version, you cannot use the People or Calander widgets without upgrading to the pro version.

I thought it works with LPP. It does for me...

It doesnt work like quick contacts does. Single click calling or messaging. All LPP did for me was to open the contact details.

Hate to be that guy...but I'm pretty darn sure you're wrong. Maybe your friends were running Launcher Pro and you didn't know it. My dad's 2.2 Droid doesn't do this, neither does my brother's.

I think somewhere along the way 'pinch to zoom' which all our phones do is being confused with pinching on your screen to bring up a view of all your home screens which is native to Sense UI and LP(+).

Are they using Launcher Pro or ADW? I had the leaked 2.2 on my Droid X, and I don't recall ever being able to pinch the screen and view all the homescreens with the stock launcher. I've only had it with LP or ADW.

In no hurry

Me and my droid x are in no hurry for froyo. Phil I don't care what you say. When my Dinc got froyo 2 weeks ago and I lost my task killer the battery life went from lasting me about 16 hours to a full 8 hours. That to me is proof that froyo still needs the task killer. So I gave the Dinc to my poor wife and bought myself a droid x. Now I'm once again enjoying a 16 hour battery life. I hope since the droid x battery management is excellent anyway, froyo won't jack it up too much. If I even upgrade. Thanks for all the work guys!


PS. Now my poor wife has to carry two stock batteries if she wants to use it as a smartphone should be used. i.e. minor game playing, minor web surfing, minor email checking.

... bought myself a droid x. Now I'm once again enjoying a 16 hour battery life. I hope since the droid x battery management is excellent anyway, froyo won't jack it up too much. If I even upgrade....

So how are you getting 16hour battery life, zero widgets and 3 home screens? I am curious since it seems like my battery goes from 100 to 80 in like 20 minutes, then filters down to 50 in about a few hours, and within 6-8 hours is gone. Only have extended settings, and some fairly static widgets running

That said ... I just can't wait for Froyo so that all my feeds and lists stop tweeting/posting about when will Froyo come to DroidX ... not much more can be said on the topic, kinda getting old sifting through the 20-40 posts a day about different theories
