Froyo ETA Set

I'm a little confused here.
I am on 2.1
I want to root but also want 2.2 official
So should I root tonight BEFORE I pull the update?
If I pull the update FIRST will I be able to root after?
My head hurts...

I'm having fun replying here, because this is much better than homework. ;)

Nah, we will just manually update like we did to the leak.

Verizon did say that they won't support the leaked version in terms of upgrading it, and it kind of makes sense; the official upgrade would probably get weirded out seeing that the build version is already on Froyo.

I rooted my 2.1 X and wondering if I can upgrade to 2.2 and still have my root?

You'll lose root, and it still remains to be seen on whether 2.2 can be rooted exactly like 2.1. I'm personally going to hold out until the members of the DX hacking community (i.e. birdman) determine what makes it tick.

Noob to Android here...do I have to do any backing up prior to the upgrade or any restoring after the upgrade and does anyone have a decent idea as to how long the upgrade will take? TIA...

It shouldn't wipe anything, but some people like to upgrade and then wipe their phone for a "fresh start." Supposedly it also helps clear any compatibility issues with the old firmware if that happens.

The upgrading should take ~10-15 minutes. I'm judging this from the 2.1 upgrade, as well as from the early leaked 2.2 build.

Re: Froyo Update Waiting Room

well in all honesty I didnt say it would be out but rather the 22nd was the last day of summer and they had until then :)

I am ok giving up my internet credibility and letting you have credit for it

My day has been made :p

Re: OFFICIAL: Froyo update coming Wednesday

Last I checked blur can pull updates. As in not having to wait for vzw to get to us. Or having to share the .zip. So no worries

You are correct, here's an article about the pull capability.

Another noob here. What about my applications? Are they going to be messed up, need re-installing? Should I basically back up everything to SD tonight?

Also, is it recommended to do the wipe thing? That seems like it'd be a real hassle to get everything set up again.

Thanks.

So why doesn't everyone get that?

Midnight approaches

I wonder how many of us will start trying for this update after midnight... :)

You just have to piss on everyone's parade, don't you? When one thing happens, you have to find something else to nit-pick.

I am sure the JIT compiler will be in 2.2 for the X, otherwise it is not Froyo. How do you know the Droid does not have the JIT in it's Froyo release? *Waits for bull**** response*
