Froyo Orientation Delay

I had the same issue after I upgraded to DK28 and then used Odin to go back to stock 2.1.

But since I've upgraded to 2.2 -- the lag was still present -- I used to phone's Horizontal Calibration tool... and now the screen orientation is fast and responsive.

Menu>Settings>Display>Horizontal calibration

Give that a whirl before using the described method above, which will also fix things nicely.

Horizontal calibration tool did nothing for me had to run sensorcalibutil_yamaha.

Yeah, it did nothing for me too! My lag is between 3 to 5 seconds. Pretty bad now. It wasn't that bad when I first installed EB13. Whats weird is has been very random with bugs popping up here and there. I just got the screen shut down last night again. Hope they come out with an update to fix all these problems!

What is sensorcalibutil_yamaha?!?!

Refer to 2nd post by paul627g Real easy fix but you must be rooted first.

Quote From paul627g "The rotation lag is a product of Froyo. It was there in the leaked version of DK28 Froyo and they didn't address it on the official release. The only real way to fix it is by rooting you phone and using an application called Terminal Emulator.

Rotation Lag Fix:

Download Terminal Emulator from the Market

Type the following

su (press enter and allow root access)

/system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha (press enter)

Then it will ask for you to calibrate. I usually lay mine flat on its back with keyboard open and then press enter. Back out of program and power off the screen then wake the phone up. Lag rotation fixed.

I would like to add that you have to be rooted first, because as it is explained by Paul627g, it was confusing to me.

It seemed that you would type su in the terminal program and you should allow root access, but you have to be rooted first before the su command is valid.

Generally what I have seen, read, and done is: if you root, it will usally install busybox and superuser, ie su, then everything should work as stated.

Sorry if I didn't make that clearer. I did say you first need to root your phone then use an application in the Market called Terminal Emulator.

I doubt if they will address this bug, I could be wrong. Its something to do with the sensor calibration. The "/system/bin/" is the location on your device where the "sensorcalibutil_yamaha" rotation calibration file is located.

I know they come up with some good ones for names... If your bored take a look around in your file system with Astro or ES Strongs File Explorer one day and look at some of the system file names... Monkey.jar, sensorcal... etc. etc... crazy stuff.. LOL.

I've tried everything on the official samsung froyo suggested in this thread and nothing fixes rotation.

I don't get any in touchwiz at all :(

Only rotates when I open the keyboard.

Try using the horizontal calibration tool but hold the phone upside down and try to keep it steady and tap Calibrate. Thats what I did and it fixed it. Yes I know it sounds funny

This fixed it for me too - put it on a table and hang it over the edge enough for you to see and hit the button FACE DOWN - otherwise you are sitting on the camera lip on rear.

Thanks!

Did you double check that Auto-Rotate screen option is ticked in display settings??

did the upside down calibrate method does work with open apps but touch wiz still won't auto rotate unless you slide out the keyboard.

You mean when you're on the home screen? I don't believe it does unless you do have the keyboard open. I've never had my home screen auto rotate otherwise.

Oh, and the upside down method worked for mine as well.

I'm still on DK28 and this has bugged me ever since I first installed it.

Just tried the "root" method and didn't (at first) see any difference (even with my phone sitting on my desk). However, on the second attempt, I let the camera "hang" off of the edge of the desk so the rest of the back was perfectly flat before hitting enter.

Now, I must say, the rotation is MUCH more responsive then what I was getting before.

Thanks!

My issue now i getting the USB to work i made a post earlier but it got swooped up in the froyo bugs topic...ill have to go to sprint i guess and hope theyll give me a new one (Tried everything yes everything on 3 OS's...and 5 computers...and 4 cords)

On further use, it is still VERY slow in some situations, but the homescreen is nearly 3 times as fast at turning the screen most of the time.

This has worked so far for me too. I've also noticed going from qwerty to close its quicker too. Thanx!

This WORKED!! THANK YOU!! I had a 4 to 5 second lag. It was so bad that I was contemplating going back to DI18.
