Froyo OTA: First Impressions

Success...sort of

So I just manually updated with the link on thee forum and it all seems great, but isn't the launcher supposed to change? It still looks the same :(

Are you talking about the app drawer? The app drawer, phone launcher and + all stayed the same for me.

Yeah, the only change I noticed is in SMS area. Everything else looks like it did when I first got the device.

If you have to charge every 4 hours, you have something more going on than "bloatware." Streaming video for 4 hours over 3G shouldn't kill the battery. I'm guessing you need to adjust your accounts/sync frequency numbers, for starters. And maybe, just maybe, your task killer is draining the battery by continuously trying to kill processes that it cannot? You wouldn't be the first.

What does your up/awake time look like in Settings > About Phone > Battery?

I am not running a task killer, I have all the same bloatware that you do, my phone has been off-charger since 7:15am EST, and I am at 57 percent (2:55pm).

up time: 27:07:11
Awake time 12:23:13
and counting has already been on charge twice today ATK and force close bloatware (cityID, skype, news, amazon mp3, fm radio, friendstream, peep, voice dialer, vz navigator, and voice search) they all come back on throughout the day and now I give a bit of battery drain allowance my storm sorta did the same (to an extent) because of my area- switching from 3g to 1x and heaven forbid I turnt he wifi on- battery won't last 2 hours just idle:eek:
cell standby: 35%
Android system: 32%
phone idle: 24%
display: 9%

Google extend/optimize battery life on HTC Incredible. I'm sure there's one on AndroidCentral.com and I know there's one of AndroidForums.com

mine came this morning when I got to work... (I think when I put it on the charger, but don't remember). So far, SUCH an improvement!! Way faster, a few subtle differences, but nothing major. Didn't loose any apps, but I did notice that I had to turn off the phone and turn it back on again after the update, for everything to change (including the robot eye and "droid" voice).

I had decided that I was going to do the manual update this morning, but woke up on the middle of the night and noticed the OTA was waiting for me. The update went smooth and took about 15 minutes (with the phone connected to the wall charger, not sure what that post about no updates while charging is all about).

First impression, everything SEEMS faster. Haven't done much web browsing to see if I'm having a scrolling problem.

All of the "builtin" apps appear to have gone back to default settings. Since I don't use any of those (peep, messaging, mail, gmail, etc) I've had to go into all of them and re-disable all of their notifications.

Battery life analysis will have to wait until another day, I'm in my RF black hole today (-110dB 3G signal, and drops to 1X most of the time), so it is in its normal battery sucking mode.

I had heard about the ATK issue before, it doesn't appear that using any task killer is supposed to work. Ugh... Thanks VZW.

Can any one tell me if your home screen can rotate to landscape . I did use the update zip file. Really no problems ,besides no rotate screen....And yes before you ask I
went to setting ...display... checked auto rotate screen .>>>Or is that only for web browsing, email & messaging...

Finally!!! I got Froyo!

So I was super excited to see that this afternoon while at work I got an OTA update. Love the new Droid eye and voice when you start up the phone. So far everything seems to work the same but a bit faster. Was having some issues with Facebook and the internet app not connecting to the internet connection but restarted the phone and it seems to work fine now. Yay!

I woke up at 4 A.M. to my cat gacking up a hairball and Froyo 2.2

I like it so far although I'm not really sure what's new and improved. lol

As far as I now the rotate is for the apps, not for the home screen. In 2.1 you could only rotate the phone to your left. Now with Froyo you can rotate it to either side.

Got it a few hours ago and so far its pretty good from what I can tell. However, an issue I've noticed so far...I use chompSMS for texting and it has been lagging real badly so far. I deleted some old conversations which has made it a little better but there are a few with well over 1000 messages and it freezes up my phone when I try to delete it...anyone have any idea how to delete it other than through the chompSMS menu?

Thanks I Gotcha ! It was hopeful thinking on my part .because the droid 1 home screen can go to landscape. I guess because of the HTC sense UI... Who knows,Maybe in the future !

Chicago IL got the OTA 8am sharp today. Downloaded and installed in 10 minutes. Looks cool BUT...

now the stock browser doesn't work. I suspect the problem has to do with flash. I will have to research a fix when I get done with work.

I recd my update late Tuesday night, 8/31 and I am experiencing SEVERAL issues with the phone:

1) Battery takes about 8-10 hours to fully charge
2) Battery life went from an average of 6-8 hours use before meter turned orange to 2-4 hours after installing 2.2
3) Force close errors each time a new MMS is recd
4) Lags when scrolling thru App Drawer
5) Lags when scrolling thru contacts
6) No longer receive FB updates from other post outside of my own
7) Not receiving AOL messages as frequent
8) Keyboard is very sensitive (types when the cord from my headphones touches the keyboard)
9) Switches from portrait to landscape without moving the phone at all times
10) Games I played often on 2.1 now hiccup/skip during game play
11) Moving apps to the memory card causes your widgets to no longer work
12) YouTube widget now shows popular/recommended videos which I imagine kills the battery
13) I am not seeing a difference in the internet speed on 3G or WiFi
14) Although I kill the internet thru ATK, when opening the browser again it remains at the last page I visited
15) Several sites do not play videos although the latest Flash is installed
16) Many new pre installed apps that are not necessary and cannot be uninstalled
17) My BlackBerry USB cord no longer charges the phone thru my PC
18) Cannot supress the pop up for the Media Manager each time I plugged my phone into the PC
19) Phone 'unlocks' itself
20) When pressing the lock button on the phone, the screen does not light up. After pressing it again, it lights up then goes dark as if it just recognized my first attempt to unlock
21) PDF's, have yet to successfully open a file since it takes forever
22) Icons on each home are not lining up correctly, lining up crooked
23) Clock widget with weather icon shows the sun/moon over the tempature
24) and almost as important as the battery, the signal is very inconsistent

I have switched batteries and chargers, I have uninstalled all apps, pulled battery several times, performed a wipe clean on the phone, updated the roaming and whatever option 1 is when dialing 228 with verizon ...everything and nothing seems tio work at this point. I have been visiting the Verizon board and I am not the only one with these issues. Was offered a 'certified/like new' device but certified/like new is just a phone that didnt work for someone else.

I have since trashed my Incredible and activated my old Tour. This 2.2 release was a joke and has made the Incredible a huge dissapointment ...but opening the door for HTC to make another Droid I guess.

Another good thing for me is the HTC bookmarks widget rarely opened the one that was selected. Now its been spot on.

damn i wish i never updated. having played with the phone all day, i found one annoying browser related thing....
01. why when i click on a link and its a pop up, when i close it the browser force quits.
02. when i click on PDF files a black pop up window appears and the downoad notification appears with my pdf file but when i close the pdf file the browser force quits. uGHHHHHHH

please google, HTC, verizon fix these bugs. froyo was supposed to be awesome. now i totally wish i could go back to 2.1.

my phone lags when i click on icons. like it takes a bit for the icon to be highlighted green and then initiate. anyone else experiencing lag with the icons?
