Froyo OTA: First Impressions

What's the best way to do a factory reset and then getting all of you apps/data back on the phone? Will the apps that have been moved to the SD card automatically be there after the reset?

Can someone provide best practice step-by-step instructions on this?

For those who have done it, is it worth the headache?

hey guys, quick question.

So my gf has an Incredible, I have an Evo. Pre-Froyo she was able to plug her phone into her car stereo using USB and she could access her music via the stereo. Post froyo she cannot. My Evo (running froyo) has no issues and works the way she wants her Incredible to work. We have narrowed it down to the fact that now 2 drives come up instead of just one and that the stereo is probably only looking at one drive. Is there anyway that the non-sd card drive can be deleted or disabled so it no longer comes up when plugging in via USB? We did already try the ## method discussed on this thread and, while successful for stopping it from trying to instal VZWs software it does not solve the music issue.

One thing I dislike so much has to do with the web browser in Froyo. Before Froyo, it was so easy to type into Web-based forums or comments boxes (ie: at the end of blogs). Now with Froyo, I click into the text box and nothing happens - my keyboard never appears; so, I can't type.

Other times, a keyboard will appear but the keyboard just floats (poorly) over the Web page. Before Froyo, my phone would give me a full-screen keyboard and text editor that just worked beautifully.

This has happened to me before, but only with the Facebook website (the app is useless).

I think that I've found one of the major battery killers post-Froyo. I posted this in another thread:

I found this post on Verizon's Support Community Forum:

However, if the stock Amazon Mp3 is similar to one that was installed on my Eris, there is an easy fix for it. Go to the market and search for Amazon mp3 and see if it give you the option to install. If it does, go ahead and install it. After install open up the app and make sure the "monitor connection" is unchecked. Back out of the app as normal. On the safe side, check your applications under settings and select Amazon mp3. From there check if the "force stop" button is available. If it is press it and click okay in the dialog. If not the app is already stopped. Either way it should remain stopped and showing up as a process that appears "active

I tried it yesterday and it works. You may not have to update the app as the poster suggests to kill it. The Amazon app appears to always be calling out to its Mother Ship for updates. Turning Amazon off seemed to make a significant difference in my battery life. After the Froyo update, my HTC 2150 A battery was draining at a much faster rate than it did before. Yesterday, I turned my phone on at 7 AM and killed Amazon MP3 at around 11:30 AM. I had little usage prior to the kill but afterward, I had three calls for a total of 65 minutes and the battery showed 95%. Before shutting the phone off at around 10 PM, I searched Market several times, updated an app, had several text messages via Handcent, did some light web surfing via Dolphin HD and played a few games. At shutdown, the battery showed 83%. Since the Froyo update I haven't seen anything close to this so it could be that Amazon MP3 is one of the big battery killers.

Update: Amazon MP3 Store remains closed after taking the steps outlined above. Yesterday, my phone got almost no use (no calls, some weather checks and a few other minor apps) and after 15 hours my battery still sat at 100%. That's what I was used to seeing pre-Froyo. After Froyo I would have normally seen some drainage with even that light a demand. It's too early to say "absolutely" but I am becoming convinced that the Amazon app's frequent use of the phones radio to call out is one of the culprits in the battery game.

My Incredible always had 2 drives come up, the internal 8GB and the 16GB SD. I wonder if who's phone is messed up!? On a related note, I personally think it's ******ed that the internal memory isn't used for apps, the EVO, DX and D2 have large internal memory for apps why isn't the Incredibles used this way?!

Not off topic.

HTC left out a lot of the updates that Google cooked into Froyo -- let's call the stock "Groyo." HTC's version doesn't have Groyo's 3D Gallery, the new keyboard, any of the camera features, the auto-brightness option on the power widget -- to name a few. Why is anybody's guess, although with the 3d Gallery I find that the Incredible is just not optimized for the experience like the Nexus 1 and the EVO. (It's available here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/android-applications/25648-froyo-gallery-app-get-here.html). Also, it can't see the phone's internal memory, just the SD card.

All three of these phones (Incredible, N1 and Evo) all have the same specs, how could the Incredible not be optimized for this? makes me sad that my phone is supposed to be so amazing and yet they really messed a lot up, not as badly as the poor Eris though.. :/

Someone on AF figured out out how to kill Skype. You open the app, agree to all of the blah blahs and then go into its settings. Uncheck everything and close the app. Go into settings\Manage Applications and Force Stop Skype but DON'T clear its data. Bingo, no more Skype even on a reboot.

very nice find! Though I don't think Skype is causing as many problems as Amazon MP3.. Maybe others have experience that says otherwise? But the fix you had for the Amazon MP3 thing has made a positive difference on my battery life.

amazon mp3 never has run in the background on me, ever and my battery was draining. we shall see how this goes.

I may ditch swype as well.

How about fixing the caller id problem with froyo 2.2

they say they are working on it, but at this rate, my contract will expire before they do !!!!
