Froyo OTA: First Impressions

Tried searching and found nothing....so heres my question!

Got the Froyo update a while ago and noticed something weird. When I go into AppBrain and do a sync, it shows an update available for Adobe Flash...but when I try and go to the market page, it says the requested item could not be found. Same goes for Adobe Flash 10.1 when I do a search anbd try to open that page. Whats going on? Flash doesnt work on any pages and Im not rooted or anything at all! Im plain old stock Froyo...without flash. Whats wrong here?

It's not "official" for the DInc yet... Adobe just hasn't gotten around to updating their stuff yet. Search the Fourm, there's a link to a megaupload site that works.

Thanks, but... what is ODIR? And by "to your exchange", do you mean "to your phone"? Because this is an enterprise exchange server at work, I can't install anything there.

Let me clarify - these calendar entries are NOT doubled on my Outlook, they are only doubled on the phone.
ODIR is Outlook Duplicate Items Remover - it's free and you can download it to your computer. If you run it, it removes all duplicate entries from your outlook calendar or mail.

Turn off sync on your phone for you calendar and after you have run ODIR re-sync you calendar and there should be no more double/triples entries on phone or exchange server.

Since the 2.2 upgrade a Verizon Media Manager Web page auto starts every time I Plug the phone into the USB cable. How do I make it stop? I do not want Verizon Media Manager.
Just:
Dial ##7764726
Hit Call
Type Password is 000000
Hit Feature Settings
Choose CD ROM
Click Disable
Hit menu, commit modifications (it will say no item changed)
Back out to home. Enjoy it

More on my post-Froyo battery issues. Prior to 2.2, my fully charged HTC 2150A battery could stay on Max for part of the morning if I didn't use the phone to any significant degree. Today, with a topped off battery (external Seidio charger) and very little use, the meter dropped to 93% in less than 2 hours. Every action seems to drop the power level by a percentage point or two. That DID NOT happen with 2.1. On AC someone said that HTC has acknowledged this battery drainage problem and is "working on a fix"

Better....

I had virtually all the mentioned problems after updating to Froyo. The "Factory Reset" seems to have fixed them all (Battery still being checked). With the added benifit of getting rid of all the crap apps I had tried once and left on my phone. Now I just need to "Root" so that I can get rid of the Bloatware that Verizon so nicely supplied with Froyo.

I may have to root and push back to 2.1. Froyo has negated, in part, the reason that I got the HTC 2150A battery. Here is an example from yesterday, The battery was topped off in my external charger and the phone was turned on at 8 AM. The usage included two calls, with a total of 30 minutes, two outgoing and two incoming text messages via Handcent, a couple of looks at Inrix Traffic and Scoremobile and some very light web page looks. Despite the fact that the phone's stats showed the proper wide gap between up time and awake time, the battery was down to 60% at 9 PM. Prior to Froyo, with that kind of light use, I would have had 75 to 80% if not more. I have definitely seen larger chunks of battery drain when apps are used. I'm going to call Verizon and HTC tomorrow to complain and I'm sure will get the standard reset advice but I did that last week and there's no change. I'm not comfortable with rooting but if need be that's what I'll do. I want the extended battery that I paid for back.

So, if I do the factory reset, will it automatically reload all of my contacts and messages, or do I need to do a backup first? If I need to do a backup, what program? Mybackup?

I have been lurking here for a few days, and wanted to ask for some help. So bear with my story.

I got the OTA update, and everything was working okay for a while. My phone has always had ****ty service on campus, but, slowly, all of my 3G apps quit working, and the 3G icon disappeared completely. I backed up the contacts on the SD and factory reset.

Then, the phone would not re-program. So, I called customer support at verizon and they helped me set it up for calls, but none of the data worked. They agreed to send me a new phone, as all of the settings were correct and it just wasn't working.

Now, I got the new phone today, 3G is working and everything, got my contacts back, so that's good. Facebook still will not allow me to set up and sync an account for some reason though. I guess that's another issue.

However, the more I research Froyo, the more I am confused. I see that it is supposed to include features like a 3D gallery and a new keyboard, but can't find any of that on my phone. And I am sure that I have 2.2.

Also, I am confused with how to get different launchers set up best, but that's another question too.

So basically, where are all of these nifty Froyo features I see on the web, and why has it been causing me these problems?

Thanks for your help and sorry if I violated any forum rules here. PM me if there is any off-topic help you can offer.

Thanks

Ok, so I did the OTA update when it came out, and had no problems, but a week ago, my launchers started to freeze my phone and FC all the time (LauncherPro and ADW both). Sense seems to be fine. Oh and the battery taking longer to charge is a pain >.<

Not off topic.

HTC left out a lot of the updates that Google cooked into Froyo -- let's call the stock "Groyo." HTC's version doesn't have Groyo's 3D Gallery, the new keyboard, any of the camera features, the auto-brightness option on the power widget -- to name a few. Why is anybody's guess, although with the 3d Gallery I find that the Incredible is just not optimized for the experience like the Nexus 1 and the EVO. (It's available here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/android-applications/25648-froyo-gallery-app-get-here.html). Also, it can't see the phone's internal memory, just the SD card.

I sent HTC a very detailed message detailing the dramatic drop in my 2150A battery's effectiveness after getting Froyo. It specified a 7 hour time period with a topped off battery and very sparing usage (no calls) in which the battery level dropped to under 80%. Here is the reply from HTC:
I understand how important it is for your device to function properly and I apologize for any inconvenience and frustration this has caused you. We are aware of this issue and we are working on a fix. We do not have an exact date or even a time frame. When the update is released it will be posted on HTC.com.

Alright. I'm sorry, but I've only installed apps on the markets, and at the most advanced by using the barcodes. How do I go about installing that one?

Also, where would the new keyboard be found?

Have had the OTA for a few weeks now (I think its been that long) and other than a few apps running not the best (some weren't worth keeping), the OTA has been great. I think battery life is better but I haven't been using it as heavy as in the past. It seems to use battery a little more when doing stuff on screen but when it idles, it saves a ton of battery (and the auto brightness helps a lot)

Let's not hold our breath. hehe

Download the apk to your phone's SD Card. Then go to the Market and download Astro File Manager or OI File Manager. Next, go to Settings > Applications and check the box to permit installation of non-market applications. Finally, launch the file manager and navigate to where you saved the apk on your SD Card (should be in \download). Open the apk to install the app.

But remember my warnings -- it doesn't see the phone's internal memory, and its a little choppy on the Dinc (a fast SD card helps).

Don't know about the new keyboard. I haven't seen it specifically. Google "froyo keyboard apk" and you're bound to find it.

I have come across a new issue on my DInc in just the last couple of days. I am always connected to the Mobile Network, so when I enter the subway in the morning my 3G icon is lite; however when I come out (after I have lost reception in traveling underground) I can't for the life of me connect to 3G. The toggle to connect to the Mobile Network hasn't changed and it is trying to connect but can not. I end up having to re-boot to re-connect to the 3G network This happened on my commute home as well.

I did install an Auto Wifi (based on location) app, but subsequently removed it thinking that may have been the cause -- but the same thing occurred the next day. Any ideas of what may be going on?

Thanks!!!

Froyo - I prefer ice cream....

Well, I have to say I'm disappointed. First I had a couple of apps that I didn't want, but at least they stayed out of my way. NOW, I have a cart full of crap that I don't want and will never use, but someone feels it's okay to force on me.

I have never and will never use those apps - why must I be forced to give them a home? This is the equivalent to a dog bringing home fleas. I love the puppy - but the fleas must be destroyed!

I have a ton of apps that I have willfully downloaded and use, but the fact remains these things are always on my system - and even when I force them down in the app manager, they pop back up within the hour.

I mean let's be real - you can buy a new computer and it comes loaded with all kinds of nonsense, but typically you can remove it all - what happened to the freedom here?

Also, my battery charge time is just over DOUBLE what it used to be and my battery life is down - and no, I'm not playing with it, as a matter of fact, I'm using it less because I've been recovering from surgery and have been in and out of a drug induced sleep. Every time I get lucid again, my phone is practically dead.

There is ONE positive that I can gather so far - BLUETOOTH VOICE DIALING!!!! YAY! Let's face it, that was stupid that it didn't work before, but I'm glad it works now.

Overall - :(
