Froyo OTA: First Impressions

The only problem I have run into is HancentSMS seems to be a little laggy.

That program becomes laggier and laggier the longer you have it. I used to use it until it got pretty bad, just got rid of it. Once I picked up the X I never got it again. So I'd say it's more the app than Froyo.

Ya I agree, I have that app and it is laggy now. Maybe ill just go back to the stock keyboard.

the stock app is improved with minimal lag in my experience today, especially now that you can limit the history under settings

My browser experience is completely totalled with the update. This is beyond pathetic just how slow my browser is now. I honestly wish we could DENY our phones the updates from here on out because every update Ive had on both my moto droid and this has not only slowed my devices down to a snails pace, everything crashes now.

This is rediculous. Dissapointed, really really dissapointed

Hey guys, quick question. I see the checkbox at the application level in the Android Market to auto-update the application moving forward. Do I need to go into each and every app and check that box or is there an option somewhere to "select all" and tell it to auto update?

Thx!

Resending Old Texts

Received the OTA update this morning and so far (without any indeptth exploration) no problems except that the phone has resent out about a dozen old texts. Which is something of a problem (having to explain to these folks why I am texting them about something that was relevant a couple of weeks ago). Not a great way to spend the morning.

Anyone else experiencing this? Any fix other than maybe deleting all texts in storage (which I will if another one goes out).

To be honest, I don't see too much of a difference from 2.1 to 2.2 - but then again I've had it only for a couple of hours.

Flash 10.1, however, works like a charm.

I work on the 47th floor of a building - pre-update I would get one or two reception bars. Now I consistently get four bars!!! and the 3G is always lite up!

Also, anyone notice that now when you plug your phone in via a USB cable attached to a computer it attempts to install Verizon Media Manager?!?!

I get a lag between the Droid Eye boot up anime and the Sense UI -- anyone else seeing that?

I just finished the manual update. Good stuff. My favorite change so far is that the screen timeout and lock can be set independently. That always drove me crazy before.

Great update. It was quick and easy to perform as always. Noticeable increase in the overall responsiveness of the phone. Same apps dont wanna work correctly but thats to be expected.

Youtube widget does not want to work. Gunna try a few reboots to see if it comes back.

So here's an odd one: I got this "My Verizon" app to check your phone usage etc. Every time I launch it I get a message saying "Your mobile number could not be validated" on the splash screen, but the next relaunch of the app and it works fine.

This is no big deal by any means and certainly not hugely significant, but I just wondered if other folks noticed the same thing.

Yeah, I have had that behavior already under 2.1... I thought it only happened when i was connected to the internet via WiFi, but it wasn't enough of an annoyance for me to really investigate :) :p

Interesting. So I just launched the My Verizon app and the splash screen went nuts -- repeating loop. It finally loaded my info and now works, but still goes through the splash screen a couple of times. I guess similar to watching an hour glass 'til the info loads?

Had that message on 2.1 as well. Not a specific Foyo related issue IMHO.

The biggest thing for me it FROYO has fixed the HTC.BG force close error that I would get every day when my phone auto-sync'ed my contacts. It also removed all the duplicate contacts that my phone stored that eventually caused me to get the low-phone memory error message.
