I just got my phone on Thursday. I haven't had much time to try stuff yet. I'm hopeing to talk to one of the deb's from the optimus s forums to see what it would take to port his recovery to our phones

Pardon my french but you are the fing man bro, i mean damn, i tried everything you tried and your directions really do work, so thank you sooooo much o:-)

Everything goes as planned until the LG Tool is fired up. It doesn't realize that my phone is connected - keeps telling me to check the cable and try again.

I've been around android dev for a while, therefore I know quite a few devs and have worked with some. I'm in touch with ones currently working on our phone, and others, Unfortunately dev's whom are volunteering their time, focus on certain projects more than others, and it takes time. My prior phone ( ZTE Warp), had nothing for first few months, NOW...we have multiple roms, kernels, etc. Give it time, and as far as what I posted, it is more of an emergency unbrick method, its not something you port to a phone, CWM ( clockwork mod recovery) is what we need, to make nandroid backups/proceed with rom development, Right now it is not stable but will be soon...I appreciate your effort but what I posted for you all is just a way to restore bricked phones. The dev whom started making CWM for our phone, is one of the brighest, well known, best DEV's around. He is overloaded with projects, but i'm sure he will get ours going soon. The phone is still fairly new, it takes some time. There are also other methods of recovery involving the stock .tot file, and .dll ( which is in testing phase ), but again, that is not what we need to start ROMMing. Anyway, I just wanted to throw it out there to the many people whove bricked their phones, a way to restore. Although the LG tool does have a menu option for recovery/factory reset, it is not designed for that, it's designed for firmware updates, therefore that portion is not functional unless you use a method such as mine. Feel free to start experimenting if you have any knowledge of adb , java, etc, (recommend compiling an SDK and working from there), but if you want to experiment on your phone, now you will have a method to restore if , not if, WHEN, you brick it, lol b/c we all run into errors, even the best devs. As far as ICS....LG states 3rd quarter 2012 therefore soon, but you never know, either way, we will eventually get that ported as well. I love this phone spec wise, aside from screen size...So i'm going to hold onto it and wait it out....For now I'm going to work on some themes, and I promise you we will have a functional CWM shortly. DEVs are hardworking overworked and underpaid ( basically volunteer, sometimes donations ). Lastly, if you happen to get in touch with a well known DEV, most likely if our community gets together and donates a Viper to that DEV, they will work on it. For now enjoy the fact we have root....be careful what you mod/install, and be on the lookout for ICS/JB OTA updates, contact LG as well, the more we contact them, the more info we will get, most likely the run around, but it can't hurt. Anyway...patience is the key. Peace.

Now here's another problem in itself, if you could, I did email you, but the factory repair you've given has zero'd my esn number out, I've tried many different methods, none of which I have found to work, and also if you could tell us the proper way of rooting, with a cwm that would work on the lg viper, I've got the info from the provider that I am activating with and cannot because I gave the "meid dec" and "meid hex" off the back of the phone, so if you can get a hold of me by email if it's best for you it is [mod edit: removed]. I would really appreciate any input you can give. and thanks again for your assistance

No need to be so condescending. If you have to do it more than once to make it work, I understand why people gave up, I'd have given up after one try also, you know, Albert Einstein said "Repeating actions but expecting different results is true madness" so, I wonder what that makes you...

Right?

I wasn't being "sarcastic," I was simply pointing out that while even though you're saying "Lol its funny why would anyone want to downgrade firmware to factory reset when u can do it the way i listed." it had been pointed out in this threat that it wasn't working. And, after having made the comment that it didn't work (and by the way, yes, I unplugged/replugged a hell of a lot more than just once, it still didn't work) I had no response from you.

So, after another person posted that it wasn't working for them either, I linked to a threat that DID work, and then you come on here being an haughty jerk about the situation and talking down to us.

I appreciate that you people do this stuff in your free time, but there's no reason to be a ****
