FYI, KitKat update kills Foxfi (apparently) on the Verizon HTC One

So is Google now bending from pressure by the carriers? So much for an open operating system. It was only a matter of time until the carriers starting calling the shots.

If you have a Mac or Windows computer you can create a hotspot from your usb tethered phone.... Works great. Just Youtube it. I use this for my iPad and PS3.

Not if your tablet is on KK as well....then the bluetooth doesn't work either.

I have a Razr Maxx running Jelly Bean with a grandfathered unlimited data plan. Since I didn't want to lose my wifi I rooted my phone and disabled the update app. I now see from PDAnet+'s web site that 4.4 is now supported for the Verizon Samsung Galaxy phones. FoxFi Devices
Maybe there is hope that they will be able to support the Droids next.

So kit Kat must go ? Is that what the problem is and is that easy to do? Don't most apps and services run off of that? And doesn't rooting your phone leave it open to "terrorism"? I'm confused. There must be an easier way.

For those interested.. U can now get root on the Verizon m7.. Did it last night.. All bloatware gone :)

I followed the link and achieved root (re-root at each startup only). I tried WiFi tether and it still doesn't work either with FoxFi or directly from settings menu. I assume in need to take the next step and achieve permanent root to use FoxFi and/or directly from settings?

If permanent root is required I will wait for Sense 6 and 4.4.3 to drop before going for permanent root. New to rooting, please help if you figured out how to WiFi tether with re-root at each startup, thanks.

I have unlimited data and a RAZR maxx HD on Verizon. What router can I get to tether my data into with foxfi USB tether? If anyone can help thanks. KitKat system. I'm not very smart on tech talk so be easy on me.

I have Verizon Samsung S3 and on FoxFi website it says 4.4 is supported. I'm going to upgrade phone to see if it works.
Fyi: If you want to get a new phone and keep unlimited data you must add a NEW line and get a 2 year contract. Once you get a new line you can go online and change your NEW line to the line that has unlimited data or have someone at the Verizon store do it for you. Someone at the Verizon store actually did this for me. The only downside is paying an extra $10 for having the new line but at least I still have UNLIMITED DATA.

I just stopped the phone from installing the software. I just postponed the install. Foxfi website says 4.4 is compatible with my Samsung S3. I am going to do the install to see if it works.

I tried using Bluetooth and USB tether but it has never worked for me.

Well that sucks. I found this in the change log :
- Over The Air (OTA) Wi-Fi exclusivity is now implemented
I assume this is what is blocking FoxFi.

Is there a way to block 4.4.2 from downloading? If not, I may have to look into rooting.

No you don't.
You can buy your phone outright (no contract), new or used, and just activate it on your current line. I just did this to keep my unlimited data.

However, if you want a brand new phone, you are probably going to spend $600+ to do this.
But if you buy used, you can usually get a year old model for $200 bucks or so. I just did this exact same thing. I had an HTC Rezound, but just bought a used (near mint) HTC One M7 for $250 on ebay. Came with 6 cases (2 of which were Otter box cases).

I love the phone. Couldn't be happier with it...and it looks brand new. The guy always had a screen protector on it and it was always in an Otterbox case. Not a scratch on it anywhere. That's the way to go if you ask me.

I use Easy Tether. Works flawlessly.
It's a pay app, but it works great over a usb connection. I had to buy it in the Amazon App Store.

I could never get FoxFi to work on Verizon on my old HTC Rezound. Haven't tried on the HTC One yet.

Foxfi just released an update that supposedly now supports HTC One (M7) on KitKat...one comment on Google Play store confirmed it worked...anyone else try it?

Working on my m7,but is there a way to get rid of the pin lock?

installed it and it appears to be working. I only have 1x service at this time when I get to 4G I will see. With the M7 you have to enable to the hotspot as an extra step. It doesn't bring up the call to subscribe screen too
