G3 Battery Life experience. Whats yours?

Re: 2 concerns radio strength and battery life

Everyone I've known to have an LG device has had signal issues. Those devices weren't smartphones though but rather basic phones and a couple Chocolates. Either way, constant dropped calls and weaker signal caused every single one of them to ditch LG. No other phone manufacture has failed them at all and this includes Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and HTC.

Again, these issues could have been resolved since then but it's scared me away from giving LG a chance. The G3 does look like a monster of a phone though!

Well now you know someone who doesn't have signal strength issues with their LG phone.

I'm on Verizon. I haven't checked dBs with my phones, but I can attest to signal quality in terms of Internet Speed and call dropping.
Moto Phones (Bionic/Razr/Razr Maxx/Razr Maxx HD) - Great speeds 4G solid and no dropped calls.
S3 - Speed was good most of the time. Bounced to 3G every now and again, but mainly stayed on 4G. Lost a few calls here and there.
HTC One M8 - 4G solid. Mostly good speeds, but inconstant. No dropped calls.
LG G2 - 4G solid. Great Speeds all the time. Never had a dropped call.
LG G3 - (Don't know. Haven't got it yet. I'll let you know next Thursday.)

Re: 2 concerns radio strength and battery life

I went to the AT*T store today on my lunch break so I could compare the G3 dBm's to the S5 and my S3. When I got there I was told they had two demophones and botrh associates that had them were off on Wednesdays. I told them how much sense that made and they told me if I called tomorrow they would give me the dBm's over the phone so I will have to wait a day before I report back. The S5 was sitting at 100 dBm and my S3 was like 83. :(

And remember that on some networks you may want to set your phone to disable its 4g/lte bands entirely most of the time. If you are -120dbm 4g vs -66dbm on 2g or 3g, and your office has wifi....you can save PILES on cell idle and data sync.

Edit:
Ooh. My G Flex is just getting the new Sprint update with wifi calling! Which is nice timing, I am nominal -105dbm on a job site right now. Will be on this up to two more weeks. Even at this signal my calls are still crystal clear both directions (!!) But once they vet my phone's MAC for their wifi I intend to see how well the feature works.

I have a feeling the smart case also is a factor. For one, whenever I close the case, the clock comes on...and I think it's really bright. I use that as my flashlight sometimes....

I am not impressed with the times being reported so far

It's not bad compared to many of the other flagships, it is just not as godlike as their last couple high end models. Unless you need some of the brand new features, I highly suggest a G2 with all updates and possibly a replacement launcher. G2 is like 90% of everything the G3 does, with a smaller body and longer battery. And it's cheaper.

My Flex has a lot more contrast 'pop' so I'm probably keeping it until that rumored Flex 2 launch at the earliest. Great movie machine.

What does -91dBm 11asu mean?

It was already discussed about 4 or 5 posts above yours...

You shouldn't be measuring signal strength by the bars on your phone, that is totally flawed and far from accurate. You can easily look up your signal strength on any Android phone and it is measured in dBm.

If you want to check out just where you are at in raw numbers, you can check the status screen in Android's menu. Just pull up the menu, scroll down and select About Phone, then select Status. On this screen you will be able to see your signal displayed in dBm as well as ASU. ASU is just a representation of the rate at which the phone is able to update its location by connecting to the towers near it. It basically measures the same thing as dBm, but on a more linear scale. You can convert ASU to dBm with this formula: dBm= -113+(2*ASU).

Att is not to be confused with nordstroms or marriott with customer service. Don't get me started. Having said that, they may be the tallest midget of phone carriers.

Are you living or working in a horrible signal area? Nothing kills battery faster than that.

Normally very true, but the overriding weight with the G3 per Anandtech and others reviews is the combination of gpu and the display. Anything that uses the gpu beyond simple video acceleration is a big battery drain.

A combo of weak signal AND using gps navigation, or web or game use would be brutal due to the Qhd overhead.

-86 dbm for mine

Thank you for posting that. That's what my S3 is but the S5 in the at&t was 100. 86 is definitely good to go!!

Hi guys just registered in order to post my new experience with Note 3. Phone was pre owned and I traded in HTC One my for it. Straight away there was update to Kit kat which I completed. After that battery was draining so fast!!! Night before last phone was fully charged at 6th used it once that evening to make one 5 min call. Went to bed, set alarm, then as per usual set it to flight mode to conserve battery. Was woken at 7.15 next morning with battery low warning sound going off!!! WTF!!! Eventually later that morning I carried out a factory reset and started over. Charged phone to 95%, as had to leave for work. Have used it a fair bit since then including wifi etc and STILL have 18% left nearly 2 days later!!! Very happy bunny now, great phone hopefully can attach screen shot to this post showing current state.

Hi, just turn off McAfee security...I've been for a week trying to solve this battery issues and found out that the Android system drain was caused by this app...from yesterday with 100% in 15 minutes has eaten 20% of battery just listening music and then just turning McAfee off I have now 35 % with internet surfing and online gaming.android system now 16% and before was between 40% to 60%. 34 hours on battery now

So far in the same amount if time doing the same stuff I would have done with my S5 my G3 is about 5% higher. Took it off the charger 2 hours ago, watched a couple YouTube videos, listened to some internet radio and fired off a few texts and I'm sitting at 93% where my S5 would be dropping into the 80s around now. So far so good.
