Anyone see this yet? It's pretty scary....hope it's just an isolated incident...not a preview of things
to come.

My guess is that it's no more than an exceedingly unlikely possibility. Are you referring to a particular G3 incident, or to this happening, as a very rare occurrence, to phones in general?

Nertil1,if you are talking about the story on reddit, saw it. Not real concerned about it. I think since the phone was laying on the bed the heat built up, and that was why. I will say with my current LG phone, I do charge it when I go to bed, and sometimes with it laying on the bed, because I use it as my alarm. But, I will not be laying the G3 on the bed....much bigger battery, probably a lot more heat produced by the charge.

I have not heard of any "outbreak" of phones catching fire, certainly it is possible considering the components that are used.
Posting something like this is not much different than asking if anyone has heard of people drowning in "water".
Google TV catching fire, car catching fire, microwave catching fire, computer catching fire, blow dryer catching fire, etc.....one can spend their entire life panicking over the possibilities. Unfortunately "heat" is part of the inherit nature of electronics......and stuff happens.

This issue is possible with any device using a battery, as batteries are inherently fire hazards. It only takes time and the sheer volume of people with said phone for this to happen.

An interesting point to note: See the picture of the back of the phone? The one that you can clearly see the power button and camera holes in the back cover? Notice how there are no burn marks there. This is where the highest temperature point is on the G3 because of where the CPU and memory controller resides. Since there are no burn marks there, this has little to do with the phone itself and mostly to do with a defective battery and/or charging cable/adapter.

Those concerned about the phone overheating to cause a fire.. It hasn't happened yet!

In the top Google hits on this issue, the articles point out it was the BATTERY. A defective battery. Could have happened to any phone.

It was not a LG G3, it was a Samsung. There is a thought that she was using a cheap knock-off battery and/or a cheap knock-off charger. My wife falls asleep with her phone most nights and we have yet to wake up to a burning bed.

^^^ That's different than the one I posted.

So they swear it was the standard charger and battery, but I have my doubts. I could and probably am wrong, but I have never had a problem with heat charging any phone. Of course I only use the correct chargers.

The power cable in the picture is black, and I thought all G3 power cables were white?

I woke up this morning to my Nexus 5 actually on fire on the kitchen bench, I was using standard charge cable, its less then 17 months old, the battery has completely melted and the phone is stuffed...
