G3 shattered from 10cm drop??

That is exactly why I keep a case on my phone.

That is exactly why I keep it in my pocket or on a desk.. Not a bag.. Purse.. On top a car.. Etc. :).

What if you take it out of your pocket and slips out of your hand because you just ate chicken wings? What if you accidentally knock that sucker off the desk with your hand because you just spilled soda all over the place? MMMMMMMM? :)

I have a hard case on it right now but I ordered the Spigen one with rubber in it to protect it a bit more.

Commiserations, Kinguin, I do think you were just insanely unlucky. I worked in the glass industry many years ago and I've seen it do some weird things. 10 cm onto a wooden surface should have been easily survivable, but I have seen tempered glass shatter for seemingly no reason -- no contact at all.

I can't say this makes me eager to buy a glass-backed phone e.g. Amazon Fire.

Tempered glass screen protector saved my daughter's iPhone. The screen protector shattered, and she thought it was the screen itself. Took it off and the actual screen was perfect, not a crack or scratch in sight. And those screens crack at even the lightest impact. I will never go without one again.

it helps, the tempered glass screen protector

Today I dropped mine from about 3 and half feet onto a ceramic tile floor. The phone exploded, phone, back cover and battery flying off in different directions.

I didnt want to look, then I did. Put it all back together, not a single scratch on it. Lucky? o.o I think so.

Any drop resulting in a defect unit should't be covered by the warranty, i totally agree with that. Was a bit weird asking for warranty when i know its my fault it broke, however if the phone was in fact less durable due to a bad quality glass under stress or some production fault, its LG's responsibility. They do drop tests on the different models before mass production. I'm not completely sure about the legal aspects in the market, but i'm sure there are at least some requirements you are committed to when marketing your product as a "phone". At least in Norway on phones we do have the right to get a warranty claim beyond what LG gives the consumer. Up to 5 years. Our laws in Norway are much more consumer protective anyways.

I don't really expect the warranty to cover it though.. And since i live in Norway just getting my phone checked will cost over 60$ and the repair itself probably 300$. Ain't monopoly nice..

Service will take some time (Great! I get time to find a case...), and il let you guys know what the result is.

Every drop is different and it seems that usually the shortest drop does more damage than a longer one. I have a glass screen protector hopefully this cracks before the screen does. I also feel a case helps in a fall I have dropped my device several times so far with no problems.

Accidents happen people! Put a case on it! I can't tell you guys how many times my devices have fallen, dropped, launched, hurled, etc. and MADE IT thankfully with a case on!

Any phone that can't survive a fall of less than its own length is defective. Hopefully it's a defect in material and not one of design.

Mine fell 3.5 feet onto a bathroom tiled floor. I was floored by not only the chipped glass on the right upper corner but the scratches into the glass, plus the fact that it was in an official LG G3 circle case. If this is the way Gorilla glass protects it's not helping. I sucked it up, sold it on Craig's list in a day for $350, including that flimsy case, after buying a new one.

These phones are super sensitive, I dropped mine the other day from hip level face first with a case and screen protector and this is what happened, I know for a fact it can't be any gorilla glass on the G3, because my note 3 use to get dropped all the time same case and screen protector with no damage, so be very careful with your G3 because it has cheap glass on it

I got my replacement the next day and got this glass screen protector instead of the normal plastic one it was 40 bucks with installation but they say it's well worth it because if it drops the protector breaks not the phone and you send it in and get a replacement no charge

Wow man that's crazy that LG putting cheap glass. That web crack is pathetic maybe it's just me but I had my 1520 with half inch screen bigger size slip out my hand waist height take several flips on the corners before sliding about 3 ft face first on concrete and come out unscathed. Barely any micro scratches no screen protector. Was taking it out my back pocket and hand didn't have a firm grip. Then had a HTC fall out my hand and hit face first on a rim and just has one crack line in the corner.

Sounds like everyone of those scenarios would be my fault so... Couldn't really say anything to be upset about it.

I am OCD so wing hands grabbing phone? Not even if 911 was calling :P... And I don't out it near the drinks on the desk for that very reason. Also when taking out it out of my pocket I always fully grab the entire phone with my hand.. Not the edges so it can slip.

I put a phone on top of my car once to put my books and my backpack in the back seat, forgot to get it and it flew off when i backed up.

I blame college for that one lol. good thing it was one of those awfuil phones from 2002

These glass protectors look promising. I know they would help a lot against scratches and so, but could they really protect your screen from breaking if the G3 is dropped?

I'm gonna get a leather wallet case just to make sure it doesn't happen again, they don't look too bad and protection is great. It will be more bulky, that's why i dislike cases, but now I got reminded why you absolutely need one...

The breaking pattern really surprised me too, never seen this before.. What kind of stress do you mean, like thermal stress?

I was definitely going to get at least a slim case from Spigen and a tempered glass protector, they just didn't have it in stock in my country yet...

That's the difference between you and I. I had my LG G3 for several days before I got my case and screen protector. During the time I was waiting for my case and glass screen protector I kept the G3 in the box. Better to be safe than sorry, right?!? ;)
