G3 Vigor unlock

I just got this phone from a friend. He sent me the code to unlock the phone that he got from sprint. I have AT&T. They said when I put my sim card in and start the phone I should get a message to insert my code... I do not get that. I have googled and there are some other options on how to do it. It says to enter a series of numbers in the phone dialer and hit dial and options will come up... mine actually dials and tells me it is sending me to an operator. What am I doing wrong?

Welcome to Android Central! From what I can tell, the Sprint G3 Vigor only has CDMA and LTE, so it won't be able to support phone calls or 3G on AT&T, unless you're using AT&T's HD Voice (which is their voice-over-LTE). But I'm not sure you can actually take advantage of HD Voice on a non-AT&T device. LG G3 Vigor Sprint: Smartphone with 5.0 inch HD Display | LG USA

Have you talked to AT&T about this? Make sure they know this is a Sprint G3 Vigor that only has CDMA and LTE, but not GSM for 2G/3G.
