Phone screens are measured diagonally I presume but there is variation among phones regarding their width and height, so it seems 3 measurements are very relevant and should be more commonly referenced. I was wondering why they aren't. Most people don't care perhaps.

The G4 for instance seems slimmer than many phones.

It certainly packs a lot of display into its narrow-bezel body, as did the G3 before it. :)

Yeah but they could have made the top and bottom bezels a little thinner like I know the LG logo is important but there's a big spot down there for just the logo

Well there is something underneath, is not just empty space.

At least I hope!!

Maybe to make the phone thin they had to put the headphone and Charging port closer to the front facing display and that black part is for that lol idk but it's awesome having software buttons but down there it's like there is space for hardware ones too

I'm gonna find a cut up version of LG-G4 to see what's down there behind logo

The diagonal screen measurement comes from the early days of televisions. The manufacturers measured this way to come up with the largest possible measurement for bragging rights. This was when every TV screen had a 4:3 aspect ratio ("the golden ratio") so a simple width or height could have been used.

ifixit.com has a teardown with pictures & x-rays. There is also several youtube videos

Another reason for the single number is it takes much less space in print, ideal for ads that want to use a big font for the screen size.
