G4 died while charging

So it happened again. I had played alpha Betty for a while yesterday evening and last night. It really is a huge battery drain. So I put the phone on the charger while I got ready for bed. Once I got into bed I unplugged the phone and started to play again. Played for a bit then put it on the charger and started to play again for a bit then exited the game and went to sleep. When I woke up this morning the alarm was going off and when I tried to disable the alarm the phone died. While on the charger! Here are the battery stats.

OK here is a stupid question and I only ask because I have done this before.

Are you sure when you stopped playing and put the phone down for the night that both ends of your charger where plugged in all the way? Are you 100% sure it was charging, like did you see the lightning bolt symbol on the battery?

Just by looking at the graph you can see when it was charging without paying. When you got into bed and unplugged it to pay (just by looking at the chart) it looks like it never got plugged back in.

I have done that before, thought I plugged in a phone to charge but either the phone end or wall plug just wasn't in all the way.

If you are 100% sure that you did than the only solution would be to lose the app. Because it would seem that is the problem.

May, do you have Battery Monitor Widget? It can show a graph like the normal Battery graph in Settings, but also records when the phone is plugged in, and when the screen is on. As shown in my screenshot in post #9.

It provides other good info as well, but just that simple graph, showing Plug and Screen could help better-understand things, or at least provide evidence that yes, your charger was definitely still working the whole time, the screen didn't unexpectedly turn on, etc.

Was the phone warm when you picked it up this morning? The times that mine barely charged or actually discharged overnight, it was warm in the morning. Implying that something was still running or causing the phone to work hard, when it should have been sitting quietly.

I'm 100% positive that the phone was charging when I put it down. The charger doesn't leave the wall. Then in the morning when I picked it up and it went dead it said need to charge more to turn on. I put it back down and went back to sleep. When I woke up again a couple hours later it was at 90ish%. And I hadn't touched the charger. Just picked the phone up and put it back down. I'm gonna have to send the makers of that stupid game a concerning little email. I will stop playing the game. I can't get into games all that much.

I dont have a battery monitor installed. I'm thinking of installing one just to make sure that game is causing these problems. And I'm not sure if it was warm or hot. I was half asleep and put it right down. Didn't notice. I was kinda pissed though but tired.

I am interested in this phone and visited 2 different AT&T stores and siting in a row of charged phones was a dead G4. Same exact thing in both stores. The store employees were mystified in both locations saying the phone was working fine a couple of hours prior.

In both stores they blamed the charger or the cord and promptly swapped them out. In one store they got it to start charging and in the other store it took so long to get it going that I had to leave. Both phones were totally dead. When power was applied to the phone they got working, I had to wait 5 minutes before it got enough power to turn on.

I walked away thinking that was more than a coincidence. Of course I can't diagnose, but something is up with at least some of the G4 units.

Its funny that you posted this. A girl that i work with has a G4 (Verizon) and when she came to work today she said her phone didnt charge last night even tho it was on the charger... so from what I can tell you arent the only one with this issue. I even asked her if she unplugged it and she said it was plugged in.

Something is definitely up, but since people aren't complaining in large numbers, either the conditions have to be just right for it to happen or else it happens in a small percentage of units.

Oh wow I thought i was the only one! And I agree orangeman the conditions have to be just right!

Tonight at work I had my charger plugged in to the outlet, and my phone plugged in to the charger....and it wasn't charging! It's the first time I've seen this with my G4. The battery symbol at the top right didn't have its lightning bolt. The reason I noticed is because I walked away and was at 81%, and when I returned I was at 79%. So I looked at the battery symbol. I pushed the phone harder into the cord, and nothing happened. So I unplugged the phone and plugged it back in (left the charger part at the outlet alone), and it immediately began charging...something is definitely up.

I've had it for awhile now and haven't seen this before.

Thanks a lot, May. You're spreading your misfortune! >:-(

I would suspect a bad/faulty......

1. Cable
2. Charger
3. Port

........#3 being the worst one obviously. Hope you guys get it resolved!

I wonder if the charger itself is faulty. Maybe we need to let lg know what's going on!

I would! See if you could have them send you out a new cable/charger for your troubles. It's easier than replacing a device!

In post #28 I described seeing dead G4's at two different AT&T stores and they use generic built in chargers for all phones so I highly doubt it is the charger or cable.

Mine did this while I was driving and using Google maps at the same time. I couldn't get the phone to charge in the car. Its going back to the store for a new replacement.

It wouldn't show the charging icon, or it wouldn't actually gain any charge percentage?

I had my charge % drop slightly on the charger, while using navigation in the car.
