G4 not charging on QC 2.0 charger

Try using the LG cable with the moto quick charger and see what happens.

+1. And vice-versa, if you want to understand the behavior even better. Just remember to do the tests under the same conditions. As the phone warms up, it will reduce the charge current. Having the screen on contributes to this.

I tried my Aukey QC 2.0 charger & cable for the first time last night on my new G4, with the screen off. It was charging at 1960mA for a while (battery just under/at 90F), which impressed me. The best I recall seeing from the LG charger & cable on my last G4 was about 1500-1600mA. At the 1960, in 15 minutes, it gained 18%, or 1.2%/minute. Going from 59% to 77%. I'll have to try again starting from a lower charge %, to give it more time at the high current, making the results a bit more accurate.

That high-amp charger likely will not get you any benefit. It is still charging at 5V, just that 2 ports can output up to 2.4A.

The Quick Charge 2.0 chargers, on the other hand, can output 9V or 12V, depending on what the device can handle. This provides more actual watts to the device, while drawing the same charge current.

QC 2.0-compatible devices CAN charge very quickly. The Galaxy Note 4 is one example, apparently.

Unfortunately, with the G4, at the moment using a QC 2.0 charger only provides about a 20% speed increase, max, over a normal high-current charger. Assuming the phone stays cool enough that the the charge current is allowed to stay high. If the phone warms up too much, the charge current will be reduced to about 0.3A, even if you're using a Quick Charge 2.0 charger.

The highest charge current I've seen on my G4, with a QC 2.0 charger, is about 1950mA. And about 1650mA using the LG charger. So I doubt the phone would even make use of 2.4A input.

If you don't need multiple charging ports, I think you'd better off with a single port Quick Charge 2.0 model, if you're looking for speed.

The Anker and the Aukey brand QC 2.0 chargers are each $10 on Amazon at the moment. I like my Aukey. And it is better than my cheap eBay chargers.

I personally prefer Anker because of the light indicator showing when 9/12v charging is activated
