G4 Owners with Leather Back beware!

Um...It's leather. It's glued directly to plastic (with no padding behind it), which is why it isn't plush and doesn't FEEL like a leather couch, but it IS leather.

Smell it.....

Lol, I didn't think it was going to feel like my sofa but I didn't expect it to feel like the cheap plastic that was used in cars 20 years ago. If you think that it is real leather then I'd hate to see what you think imitation leather is.

Maybe the black that I have feels different to the other colours but LG to call this leather is a joke.

Just because it smells of leather doesn't mean it is leather, the seats in my wife's BMW smell like leather but they are not leather. BMW don't use real leather unless you get the 'individual leather' as explained in their brochure.

For people who say that it is "not" leather, they should question LG why advertise it is. Isn't that false advertising? I believe it's leather, as when I use the nu-vinyl, it gets like the leather seats in my car, a nice shine. Plus my black leather feels no way like a plastic. Far from it.

Are you sure your car seats are actually real leather or leatherette. By the way leather isn't supposed to be shiny, however plastic can be very shiny.

Wait, people believe LG use real leather?

Seriously though, who did LG think they were going to fool with the plastic leather look. It is worse than the plastic Samsung used on Note 3 and way worse than the plastic on the Note 4

It's real leather, dude.

Feel the back of the black leather G4 and the black Note 4. The Note 4 feels smooth while the G4 has that pebbled-leather texture. It even smells like what leather smells like.

It's hard because it's glued to a plastic back and because the leather is 0.45mm, it's not going to feel like a leather couch.

I have a car with genuine leather and the texture is exactly the same.

Yep, definitely leather. FYI the Nu-Vinyl is what causes the shiny smooth soft feel. Oh well, if you don't like it, sell it, give it back, junk it.

I have a clear plastic tpu case on my phone and will keep that on around campfires, cigarette and cigar smoke. The smell is slightly there but slowly fading away.

Meanwhile, I've completely covered the leather with a Spigen Slim Armor...

Definitely real leather. LG would get into a lot of trouble if they advertised it as real leather and it wasn't. Not to mention the bad press.

Quality leather is plush without padding. There are many grades of leather and the leather that LG uses on the G4 (at least on my brown leather G4) is some of the thinnest leather you can use. I imagine it is leather since they can't advertise "real leather" without actually proving that it's real leather but it is leather that has been dyed and processed to death.

Just because something says "real leather" doesn't mean it's only "real leather". It can have all kinds of other chemicals mixed into it. Considering how thin and tight it is, if it were only real leather, it would not look very good for too long and it would probably rip and scratch too easily.

If you have owned any top grain leather products (as opposed to the low grade, "Genuine leather" products), you know right off the bat that this leather is not of the highest quality. I don't mind and frankly, whatever they mixed into the leather is making it hold up pretty well so I'm thinking about getting a black back to see what the difference is other than the grain pattern imprinted on the black leather.
BTW......Anything can be made to smell like leather.

Exactly, whatever they done to it takes any resemblance or feel of leather away from it. I can't even mark it with my nail, the leather on the back of my Moto X is also very thin but at least it feels a bit like leather.

If you start with leather and sandwich it between plastic and whatever they put on top of it then you can't really say that the back cover is made of leather.

I do like the phone but it will be going back, I have already had it replaced because I thought that there was something wrong with it because of the lag but the replacement is the same. I guess I got too used to my Moto X(2014) and iPhone 6 being lag free. The camera is dam good though.

No doubt it isn't the highest quality leather out there... If it were then they would advertise it as such. Keeping in mind that my Verizon g4 leather back is the same cost as the plastic back, I don't really have a problem with it. If they sold it as at a substantial premium on Verizon then it would be a point of contention.

That shows just how much you know about leather, so you think that because it has a pebbled texture it has to be leather?

I paid an extra £30 for the leather because I thought it would feel like leather.

Wouldn't LG get into serious trouble if they advertise it as genuine leather but turned out to be synthetic???

Just go get yourself an clear TPU case for like $10 in Amazon, then you can show off that sweet leather back! 👍

I've already got the Spigen case, and I needed the kickstand.

So while I did find a Spigen clear case, I didn't get them for the lack of a kickstand.

Oh you can definitely tell the difference. I happen to work for BMW, so I can tell the difference between BMW seats a mile away, lol.

I get your point though. My G4 came with the black leather, and it DOESN'T feel like leather. I switched to the brown leather back, and it DOES feel like leather. Either they put some coating on the black to make it last longer (leather doesn't exactly stand up to abuse), or it's synthetic.
