G5 owners - happy or not?

I just grabbed my G5 and I'm liking it so far. I have the S7 too but that's going bye bye tomorrow.

What I like about the G5 is the responsiveness of the fingerprint scanner. I also like smoothness and quickness of it as well. Camera is a beast too along with the camera features it has as well.

I'm really pleased with it.

HAPPY! SO FAR!

All this hate is really strange. I'm not sure if the "console wars" is this bad. For what I paid and what I'm getting (360 Cam, rechargeable battery unit), I'm totally satisfied. All this ******** because the phone isn't perfect or a S7; I don't want an S7, I have a G5!

The console wars were way worse. It's a never-ending flame war.

I am really, really pleased with my G5, it is definitely a better phone for me than the S7, that doesn't mean it's a better device for everyone. I am so glad that there are so many choices to be had within the Android family. I'm not one to pick a team, so it's nice to be able to choose a phone based on what will work best for me.
I am also glad I preordered, because even though I know there will always be bad units, and I also know that unhappy people are more likely to report their experience on forums than satisfied customers, it is still worrisome to see so many reports of problems. I feel lucky to have a problem free G5.

I'm getting about 10-11 hours a day with heavy usage. I turned off nfc only because I don't use it. I definitely am enjoying using this phone.

Likewise. Easily getting me through the day. Heavy usage too. Hopefully this keeps up. Also, my workplace is a black hole, very little reception. Love the G5.

I'll be honest, most of the negativity is coming from the Samsung fan boys. These forums are heavily biased towards Samsung or even Nexus to some degree. The G5 clearly is & was clearly the best phone at the MWC 2016. You should be proud & happy with your purchase, enjoy!
Actually most of the negativity comes from G5 owners. They're the ones who have the device in hand and open threads like "disappointed with battery life" or whatever else.

Sometimes I think some people just get devices and instead of enjoying them, they want to be the first to find an issue with it or some type of discrepancy with it. So they dig and dig until they find one little issue and then they start a thread and get people's approval on what THEY should do...smh. If someone isn't happy with the phone, then just return it or exchange it ...for a different device that won't be perfect either.

That JerryRigEverything guy loves to dig: first he scratched the surface of the G5 but then decided to dig his way to China

"Oh look, I can dig this deep on the G5 before I see the aluminum!"

Is that really necessary?

Hhhmmm. Some people

He thought the G5 felt odd for a metal phone, so he scratched it to see why.

With all due respect, some of the negativity also came from some G5 owners and some LG fans in general. So I don't think assuming that most people who is negative about the G5 are fanboys of Samsung or other competing manufacturers is a smart move.

I'm seeing a ton of negativity from people who don;t actually own this phone making comments on it. If you decide not to try a phone because it does nothing for you, fair enough but to slam a phone without even trying it is ridiculous. I disliked the G5 prelaunch and went with an s7 but hated a few things about it (physical home button and poor one handed operation) so I decided to try a G5. I really like it. If people try it and dislike it more power to them, but to just slam it without trying it is pretty weak, and thats what most of the negative reviews I am seeing are.

I am seeing a lot of negativity about the G5 - maybe just that it's often the people having a bad experience post on forums, and those who are happy are busy playing with their phone. Or maybe there is a QA problem. Or maybe this phone is really a "love it" or "hate it" thing. G5 owners, what's your experience?

I have a Verizon silver G5, and am very happy with it. I am coming from a three year old S4, so I have not used any recent flagship phones, so maybe that colors my perception a bit. The chin fits flush, no scratches or cosmetic damage, and the screen (to me) is bright and beautiful, no easily apparent bleed. It feels good in my hand. I will certainly be keeping it.

I know others are having a bad experience - how's your G5?

I am with you I preordered the phone however the stuff that you are reading is not so much folks do not like the phone, I think folks would be happy with it. What we cannot do is get into a love this and love that deal the facts are that a lot and not a few a lot of people are getting phones that have serious QA issues. There are bubbles and lines in the paint and then there is the LCD Panel, and gap on the chin. If you are the lucky one that got the perfect device with none of the very public issues (which there are videos showing this screen, and chipping) that is awesome for you and gives me hope that mine will arrive like that. But those that paid 700.00 and got the lower end of the deal are gonna be vocal and I can't blame them I would be too. I still think LG made a good phone and challenged the idea of what metal phones can be and feel like vs the anodized models that we are use to in HTC and Apple. I just hope that they get the screen thing fixed. And for the record I checked with two ATT stores here in the Dallas area and Southlake they were out of units from folks that ordered online who then came into the store to return due to the chipping of paint and screen issues. Messed up my weekend lol.... I was hoping to grab one for my daughters birthday as I wait for mine to be delivered.

Make your own app folder!?! Instead of four dots... you can see the first four apps you add to the folder(icons you like best/apps you use most), then bury the rest in the same folder. When you open that folder... you can flip through it just like an app drawer!?!?

You are awesome for adding this essentially that is what the app drawer is good deal when mine comes I will do this vs doing that easy home selection to get the app drawer.

Yeah its funny that people are going off on him but were cheering when another youtube dude bent the iPhone with hulk strengh, or the guy that showed the world put the S-Pen in backwards. The thing is there are flaws with almost anything however when I tap the HTC M9 or iPhone you know thats metal this guy tapped it and it felt like plastic. Everyone at MWC back in February said the same wow this doesn't feel like metal its light and plastic to the touch. So can I blame the guy for wanting to get down to the nitty gritty no and I think that what he did was shine light on it and LG had to issue a response there is nothing wrong with that folks.

No worries bro!! Glad to hear you like the idea!! For me, it's lg giving you the option to create your own app drawer!! Isn't that why we use Android... for complete customization!!?!?

When you create your folder... the order you add the apps to it... is the order they will show up in the folder!!! Don't think it gets any more custom than that!!

I personally own the S7E but I had a G3, then G4 and my gf just bought a G5. I did really like my G4 but it wasnt without issues. I was one of the people with the dreaded 505 S/N and after about 8ish months, my motherboard died and made my phone a paperweight. Now LG did fix it for free but I lost all my data and was without a phone for 2 weeks.

Another issue I had with the G4 was all the stupid wifi problems (vzw version). That was a real headache for a long time.

But honestly other than that, I loved that phone, which was why I had no problem recommending the G5 to my gf.

I've been playing around with it and shes been using it as her daily driver, and she loves it. Haven't had anything to complain about yet, just really hope that LG has fixed all those QC issues and none of these phones die like mine, and many others, G4's

I feel the same way. I had the S7 for 2 weeks and with all of the bloatware and touchwiz on it. It seemed to be slow and janky. I really like my G5 so far. Battery life is good. I'm not really a heavy user and it's very smooth and fast. Samsung really bogged down the SD820. I haven't had any stuttering or yips in the G5.

For sure not going to upgrade to this. I'm always very sceptical when something so new is done with technology. I have my G4 which is doing more than fine for me which is actually unusual because I tend to get bored with my phone after about a year and start looking for ways of getting a new one.
