G5 owners - happy or not?

I am extremely pleased. It is the fastest, smoothest, most consistently performing phone I've used.

Previous phone was a nexus 5x, which was a gigantic pile of fail. Constant stutter and lag, and if it wasn't reset every couple of days it would become unusable. On and forget about Google maps, the only way in which it wouldn't slow the phone to a crawl was if it was loaded immediately after a reboot.

Before that, a s6. It had random stutter an lag and needed regular reboots. Had the maps issue to a lesser extent.

Before that, a nexus 6. No issue with maps and no slow to a crawl, but consistent stutter and lag.

Prior phones were pre-lollipop so they functioned properly.

This g5 does not slow down. It does not lag. It does not stutter. Even maps can't mess it up. Just pure butter smooth.

Is the s7 as smooth? Beats me haven't used one for long enough to tell.

Camera is real good. Not sure if its improved over the g4, but really, the g4 and s6 hit the doorway to diminishing returns. Beyond those, differences are incremental. G4 level cam is fine.

Build quality is ok. Mine seems much better than some of the horror shows I've seen tech bloggers get, but it's still behind the s7.

Battery is decent. Nothing really to say.

Screen is fantastic if you look at it on its own, and merely good if you look at it next to a s7.

I can't speak for the s7, but i can say that if you're tired of lag and stutter, you'll be extremely happy with this phone.

You did whaaat!... ditching Edge for G5! Thats insane! Whatever floats your boat! Enjoy your new phone!

I am currently using the S7E and the G5...I find the battery life to be about the same on both, with a slight edge (no pun intended) to the S7E.
However, I enjoy the feel of the G5 over the S7E and I don't have to wipe my fingerprints off at every use...

Camera: Like most AC articles, DL too...Camera is subjective and always comes back to, "What's your flavor?" for me- I've always felt LG has a fantastic camera. Whether it works or not, I give kudos to LG for daring to be different (Modules)

Final Answer: I use the LG more so than the S7E.

Tony

But to follow up... I still like mine. As much as people have talked about materials and design, I think it feels good in the hand, I don't generally use cases.

Super fast and I don't have any issues with the battery life.

Also, works very well as a phone, as in making calls. Being that I am on conference calls half the day, this is important for me.

Very happy with it, took back my s7e and kept my g5. Don't get me wrong the s7e is a great device but I found it tough to type with the edge, I would of probably liked the s7 better but I like a little bigger phone.

Love the fingerprint scanner way better than the front one, it's blazing fast. Getting good battery life, about 4 hours SOT at 65% and about 18 hours total yesterday so real satisfied here.

Initially I wanted to trade my S7 edge for the G5 on release day. The painted finish didn't matter to me at all, I'll explain in a second. Through light bleed issues seriously turned me off though, I dealt with a V10 that had really noticeable light bleed at the second screen and I literally just couldn't.

I'm a project manager for a custom metal fabrication company and I deal with primarily aluminum extrusions. Painted finishes trump anodized all day long. The finish warranty for painted material is twice that of a class 2 clear anodized finish.

People literally have no idea what they are talking about when they say the phone is coated in plastic, it almost makes me nauseous hearing people say that. If it was a powder coat finish I might not cringe as much but I still would.

I haven't watched any durability reviews but I'd bet it's more resistant to scratches than any other anodized aluminum phone. Planes, cars, bikes, golf clubs, you name it... just because your bike is painted doesn't make the frame coated in plastic.

For the record I am aware they are using an anodized aluminum as the base metal.

So did you pick one up?

No I stuck with the S7 edge, I couldn't get over the LCD display. I really wanted it for the IR blaster.. believe it or not

I never knew I needed an IR blaster until I got my G3. Now with my G5, my smart bulletin screen is all quick remote.

I am just an average user and cannot speak to the technical specs of this phone. However, I think I represent the vast majority of users because most people aren't going to go into a dark room to check for light bleed or scratch the phone to determine its composition. That said I am very happy with it. The screen is bright and sharp. It is fast. Like web browsing, play store, running apps are all very fast. I like the look and feel of it. I set up all the extraneous apps into one folder which serves as an app drawer. I know it's silly but I really like the green Spirograph/mandala looking lock screen. The phone feels quality. I don’t want to scratch it so I’ll just accept it as is. I’ve had it off the charger since last night at about 7pm and it’s at 55% now at 11:38 the following morning. I have used it moderately not heavy though (texting, Instagram, emails). The camera is great. I have an iPhone 6 for work (they require us to have iPhone) and I’ve always like the camera on that but this is hands down better. I took some shots in low light inside my house and this camera does loads better. The iPhone picture was darker and the colors weren’t as true. I really like that there is a manual option too so that I can adjust shutter speed and ISO. It opens up some creative options.

Looking at your profile, I see that you're active in the forums. I'll assume you know you can get the app back now? Or use a launcher? To each their own.

Great to see some positive post coming. As time goes by I think we're seeing more people pleased with the device and reaction has died down for those that don't like it. Great feel, super fast and responsive, great camera and no lag whatsoever. Loving my G5.

He means the 4.0 launcher but you have to get it from smartworld

Or one of the other launchers in the play store.

Which is the simple option a lot of people would be doing anyway.

4.0 is fine but it's not like everyone on a G3 or G4 stayed with it.

After my Nexus 5. I can't tare myself away from Google Now Launcher. I rotate between that and Action Launcher.

yes I would like to try that but I can't get SmartWorld to work. I keep getting the "unfortunately, smartworld has stopped" message. I reinstalled it but no luck.

The T-Mobile G5 does not have an app drawer option

I know Phil had trouble at first then he came back with another post where he had it up and running. He didn't say how he got it to work. He's running the Tmo variant as well.

I just picked one up and can't really complain about the physical build quality of the phone. I don't think it feels like plastic, but it certainly doesn't feel the same as my 6P (not necessarily a bad thing, just different). The only thing I do notice is some slight light bleed at the top of the display, which I think I can live with. If it bothers me enough I'll exchange for another. It's currently downloading all of my apps, but the phone seems VERY snappy, no lag whatsoever even when downloading the apps. I'm definitely excited to try this out once everything is installed.

On April 2nd, my wife and I went to a Sprint store to look at the G5 as possible replacements for our Samsung S5's. Frankly, we were not expecting much after reading negative comments here and elsewhere. We found one Titan and one Silver on display.

Finishes on both were better than fine. We cranked up the screens to full brightness but noticed no bleeding. Found no issues with the fit of the battery caps. We actually liked the interface. My wife who, in large part because of her job, is a big power user, spent several minutes giving the software a workout. We tried, but neither she nor I found problems. She eventually confirmed my impression that these things were much faster than our S5's.

We asked a salesperson to get us two. We were prepared to go through several phones before finding two unblemished ones. Nope, the first two looked perfect, so we did the paperwork.

We spent much time with them over the weekend. About the only issue I have, and it's a little one, is that the Voicemail app sometimes shows there's an unread message when there isn't one (my wife hasn't had this). Also, I thought I saw screen unevenness, but that went away when I wiped off my finger smudges.

These LG G5's are wonderful, a huge step above our trusty S5's.
