G5 owners - happy or not?

Only thing I'm dissapointed with since switching from the Galaxy s7 edge is the G5 Always On Display brightness.... or the total lack of brightness should I say. It's practically invisible in daylight and renders it useless til the sun goes down. Apart from that I'm loving it

The S7edge is just way too fragile. I kept mine in a Spigen Rugged Armor case and after it falling only around a foot onto my van floor, the edge screen cracked across half the length of the phone and the camera glass shattered. I got it replaced on the insurance then sold it on and got the G5 instead.

Very early days for me but I'm slightly baffled by the mediocre reviews the phone has been getting.

I understand the concerns about the build quality with the sharp edges, plastic feel and the awkward removal of the bottom of the phone but as someone who always uses a case, it's a complete non-issue for me. Same for the modules, not interested, don't care.

The performance is exceptional and the camera is superb. Battery still has the jury out as I've not had it long but I really don't see how this phone has seen so much indifference. A worthy successor to the G4 imo.

I enjoy this phone a lot. Yes the painting the metal choice by lg is weird. I don't mind antenna lines at all. Otherwise the battery life is great and performance is top notch.

Most people who knock this phone never spent real time using it. Most only read the reviews, others looked at it in the store. The percentage of people that spent a couple of weeks with it and returned it is rather small. I was one of them....purchased it and returned it. Tried a Nexus 6P for a couple of weeks, which I loved except for a few things....waited for the HTC to be released and came back to the G5.

Why not replace it with the regular S7?

I made a thread about why I'm happy with my G5 so far and how I think it's underrated compared to other phones especially considering the price difference.

http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-g5/718688-lg-g5-underrated.html

Only (very minor) issue I've had so far is not because of the phone itself but rather because I bought an unlocked version meant for the Taiwan market so some of the punctuation keys in the stock keyboard cause the entire message to be displayed in Chinese on the receivers end  Has anybody had a similar issue? Weird how one little character will change the entire message.

Best phone I ever had.

Came from:
S1 > Moto X > Droid Turbo > HTC M8 > Sony Z3 > Moto X Pure

I am totally happy with this phone. I have not one of the issues reported by other's.

Battery is the best of any gadget I've ever had.

The camera, or should I say cameras, are stunning. Really awesome. Totally blown away with the quality.

The screen is actually visible in the bright sun.

I've always wanted a gadget with an IR Blaster and I didn't even know the G5 had one. Bonus!

I am having a really hard time putting it down.

Very happy!

Still love mine except for the GPS issue which is on it's way back to me from LG.... hopefully repaired.

What GPS issue? I've only read of 1 or 2 incidents is these forums!! I rely on my GPS/Waze on a daily basis, so simply want to keep informed of any potential issue

There are more than one or two with bad or weak GPS. Just Google search and you will see.
It doesn't affect every phone and the good news its fixable.

My wife's G5 suffers from this. She's on the road all the time for work too. I haven't seen it as much on my G5, but I don't use it a much as she does.

If you send it to LG expect about a 2 week repair turn around. Shipping is free under warranty both ways. They fixed mine but sent me a beat up module. I complained and they wanted me to send it back. I said no way I and that I've been without my phone long enough. The representative at first wouldn't budge and I askd for a supervisor so she put me on hold and the supervisor never came on and then she wanted me to send them a picture which never happened and ultimately she ended up arranging to ship me out a replacement. So now I have two modules. I believe the repair is actually in the module I think that's where the at GPS Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas are located. Also on a positive note the fit between the module and the phone is better now, much more even. I don't know if that's because they made an adjustment or if the replacement modules just fit better. I was always tempted to tighten down on the screws on either end to see if if that made a difference but now I don't need to.

I could have told you about the bolts. Didn't work. I've gotta little gap, but I've got the Spigen slim case so I'm good in that regard. I certainly do appreciate the information. Thanks man.

Is it a specific series of G5s that are impacted? Serial numbers ??

I bought the G5 almost 10 days ago and I'm really satisfied so far.
I was worried about the battery duration (after reading several reviews) but after the first full charge it lasted 86h (with 4h SOT, some FullHD and 4K video), yesterday I charged it after 73h 49m (12% still available on the battery, over 4h SOT, 3h 30m of calls)...I'm not probably a so called "power user", I don't keep the data connection/wi-fi turned on the whole time, I switch them on only when I need and when I go to sleep I always set the airplane mode.
That's my "use profile" that I always followed with all the phones I had (Galaxy S2 and Zenfone 2 DeLuxe) but I've never reached the duration that I'm getting with the G5.
I think G5 it's been a good choice for me.
Regards,

Roberto

That battery time sounds amazing. I understand you're turning off a lot of the power hungry features of the phone but I still can't t help but be impressed. I think this will be my next phone if the v20 turns out to be a disappointment. After having the g3 I don't think I can ever go back to a sealed battery

I don't think the V20 will be disappointing, at least on the paper it looks promising, same hardware of the G5 but with a bigger display.
The only thing that I would have really liked on the G5 is the 64 GB availability (like the V10)...having 4K video recording capability it needs a lot of MB of room even for just a short video.
Ok, I can expand it with a SD card (as I did) but it's not the same as having 64 GB of internal storage !
And probably the external SD card is slower than the internal one.
By the way, I consider this the best phone I have ever had so far.
